I'm afraid thats all part of being in a Beta. These things happen now so they HOPEFULLY wont happen when the retail hits.

Right dont be attacking him saying this is beta because you are showing how dumb you are. The devs said in their own update they want everyone on this weekend for a final test and to gather as much data as possible, but instead they have technical issues with the servers which they promised they were dealing with this time last week. If you want to be a blind fan boy and put this endless down time to BETA then fine do it, but lets revisit this page in a weeks time when the game is live and there are still problems.

The OP is right, as its the last weekend of OB it should be up allowing as many people to play as possible so they can discover any other bugs. You forget there are DAYS of downtime between OB and Live release, and that is when the server should be down applying patches or changes.

So stop attacking him and being blind fanbois! I am a fanboi of STO, but I will not sit here and mak excuses for the server being down so much, no matter how much I support them they are not goign to turn around and pat me on the back and say thanks heres an extra character slot. So grow a spine!

So is/was the 12:05 GMT+1 disconnect part of a known series of server crashes? Because the Launcher now reports server down, but I just got the all-new 'Account Error. Contact Billing Support' message ion mine too ...

(and yes, the servers "should" be up, but unfortunately servers are only human* and prone to sudden death too...)

*downtime is futile. Prepare to be crashed...

I just have to hope that it is indeed a beta problem just with too many people on a single server.

I fear though, that with several servers, there will not be enough people to flesh out these auto-pickup groups, and the game might fail.

WTF are you going on about attacking him ? I never attacked him, I gave a straightforward answer to the question so don't tar me with the "fanboi" brush.
Wouldnt he rather these problems happen when he is NOT paying for the game than when he is ? Seems quite easy to answer when you think about it and BTW, I am no fanboy, in fact I only got into this game for a welcome change to Azeroth.

and I like it. LOL. ;):D

Suppose we all want this game to succeed, just frustrating that on the last weekend of testing the server is still having the same problems it was last weekend after they said they were installing new hardware.

Fingers crossed things get better fast. I just don't want players being put off because as we all know a lot of people use OB as a preview before buying the game. In fact I would go as far as saying that the majority of players use OB for just that. I was in CB for a couple of months and a lot of the bugs I encountered and reported are still there and that worries me :(

You can have changes in the game mechanics and an unstable server, or you can have no changes in the game mechanics and a stable server. Once the game mechanics are stable, the server will be too. Headstart might be a bit rocky.

Well, unless you're native, Australia is a former british colony, so it'd rather say 'unto' is right. It's an old use. 'Unto' means 'to'. IIRC the whole saying comes from the bible of the catholic church, so it's more likely to be 'unto' than 'on to'.

As for the server, I'm concerned as well.

Did it crash or did they take it down for "routine maintenance" and forget to tell us? I awoke to a rather large update, so what gives?

This taking the server down during prime time play time (in the States) doesn't make sense to me.

    I'm just sayin'...

Only in a Trek forum thread could you get people to agree to disagree amicably, and learn something interesting about history and philology at the same time! :) Rock on dudes, if the game dies it won't be because of us. :D

the only thing i can say to this is that whenever a new game goes up, it ALWAYS has server problems. unless it has no content, its just the nature of the beast.

Ummm, this isn't their first game. This is their THIRD, "server problems" like this are not a mandatory part of MMO launches.

They need to double the number of servers they have because it's clear they can't handle the load. "Star Trek" is not a niche genre, it's pretty popular and they should anticipate a huge demand -- especially this close to release.

Problems and bugs will occur, but this is not a good sign. Still, things have gotten signficantly better since last week or so, but there are still way too many bugs. We're getting there, but this is NOT "just how Beta or MMOs are".

Hmmm, my last post seemed very negative. What I meant to say was "it's Beta" is a stupid excuse to throw at someone being frustrated with bugs. However, even as the game is now, it looks like Star Trek will be a great game. Things will be worked out. We just want Cryptic to get hardcore on this bug/stability issue so that when the flood of people buy the game, they won't quit. We all want to see STO succeed. :)

Do you know the meaning of Beta-testing?

I do but, parentally (based on the release notes), Cryptic doesn't.

Beta means: 100% functionality implemented and no bugs left from the previous (pre-beta) testing phase.

It 100% of the functionality is not implemented (it can be buggy, but it has to be there. Beta _should_ be a code freeze as far as new stuff going in, although sometimes it can happen. However, it is something NEW, not something already scheduled. Otherwise, it is Alpha.

Alpha means that not all functionality is implemented, but they want testing done anyway.

Alpha/Beta etc brings no expectations about who is doing the testing. That is what "closed" Beta and "open" Beta means.

However, I keep seeing new stuff being added to the product. So unless they are testing their ability to add new stuff, this doesn't qualify as beta.

This, of course, is the technical definition. It was probably Marketing that decided it was time to call this Beta, so I don't blame Cryptic devs for this.

LOL you need a chill pill he just reminded him this is a beta. And I would rather they do small patches that are unnoticed to fix major things now. Than when live hits. And as far as server time this weekend I have put in eight to ten hours. So being down a few times don't hurt. Wow I don't understand pepole that cry. At least the Devs try to fix things in this game. Give the Devs a break. Remember there are thousands of us testing. So you get enough info in an hour to fill a book. Its not just you or me sending tickets. So I will say it like it is. Its BETA. And the Devs are doing what needs to be done. Its the fans that f up all MMOs. Its happen to swg and wow. Just let the devs run the game. Quit telling them what to do. Devs you have the floor. STO is the best MMO out here right now. And that's because its not like every other WOW based MMO. Thanks STO Devs. I have Beta tested SWG , WOW, and LOTRO, This is the best beta I have done. I see improvement in every patch. As far as server dropping. They have told you they did not know this many folks where waiting to play this. And it takes years to build Rome. And a day for people too trash it. So with that said. Lets all be cool with the devs. And If any of you are still stuck a SOL Loading Screen turn down your graphics. And try that. It worked for me. I set mine to low even tho prior I could log in there with the settings they had selected. And if your wondering how to do that from the Character screen log in when you get to your toon. hit the back button and wola the options will be to the right lower cornor. GL to all and lets all be friends Ehhhhh. Live Long and Prosper.
