If you are running an ATI card go ahead and disable dynamic lighting and post processing. Sure it will not be as shiney or glowy but you wont CTD. I used to have the same problem.
sorry man, i'd post more but i can't see thru all the sideways flying 'dogs' that run up to me..
lol yes iv had it crash its laggy and crashes 4 me more on max graphics settings especially with sheild generators and phaser fire going off turning down the lighting and shadow effects down works to some degree but its fine in space combat!

Yes its ATI but thats not a good enough answer, I wont turn down graphic settings when my hardware is more than cabable of doing the job.
But appreciate the info, hopefully that will make it easier for them to fix this issue
On an ATI myself and have a LOT of CTD's on the ground missions. I will take the recommendation, but my hardware (5850) should not be breaking a sweat on this game...
I guess I should stop leaving nasty messages in the debug reports. It's just frustrating to have to restart the mission on the ground!

Its not the hardware at all, and not turning off the small effects that have almost no impact on visuals is a bit odd if it means you can play the game. The error is driver/program related so if you are a person (like myself) who wants to make everything the highest possible you will have to make that SMALL sacrifice to play the game.

Im on an ati 5850 myself and if you just disable those two settings you'll be fine.
well made it a whole 3 min into starbase 24 before i CTD'd soo much for a fix for that, good thing i have other games to play they just better figure this **** out before friday.
Crashing constantly on ground and space based missions, and im not using an Ati card (2 Nvidia 9800GT's in SLi).
The patches today have seriously effected the stability of the client, before today i had not recieved a single crash since i started in closed beta, today i've had 4 in the space of an hour.
i have had multiple crashes and frankly it is tiresome, this is a serious issue they seem to have failed to take note on. i know they may have a lot on their pallet but they have to address this and soon.

Id like to think they know about it i mean they do read forums and they must have a flood of crash reports, i know my system sends one every time.
the second is aproaching fast and if next weekend its still like this....

Crashed so many times in ground missions I don't want to bother with them anymore... (still happening in latest patch)
Some skill graphics trigger it, target optics is one... I think shield regen is another
