Fatal Error: Corrupt pig file detected
Read failed for the file:
Texture_Library/Costumes/Avatars/Aliengen/F_Head_Tendrils_01_N.Wt ex

I have updated my video drivers did a clean install of the game, I have no idea what to do here but I can't even stay in the game for 5 minutes if I even get in, none of this happened until after the recent patch?

Where did you download the client from?

Atari for the 2nd clean install..its the pre order, first one that worked fine until patch was from fileplanet but even that started having that same issue after the patch.

    Hence the clean install

Have you tried installign the blank cryptic launcher and letting it download the 10gb by itself? That way you will know for certain if it is indeed a corrupt file on cryptics side, or something on your system that is corrupting it.

If you want to try the blank downloader:

This is getting frustrating, I will try this and after the really slow download that should take 15 minutes that actually takes 2 hours lets hope it actually works.

Thanks for the suggestion, here is hoping it works!

Btw the game was running great prior to this last patch, but your saying all of a sudden something on my end might be corrupting the file download?

How exactly is this going to patch the game if I am already patched?

Try deleting the 3 texture hogg files. Also run a force verify for good measure.

Well I noticed the link provided below was the exact same as what I used to reinstall the game last night so that did not help, (but thanks for trying).
I even removed the pig folder (again) since that's where all the corrupt files appear to stem from and let it patch and still I crash with same error. I have done the file scan too many times to count and am rally at a loss as to what I can do.

Any Dev's have a suggestion please?

Thank you kindly for responding also.

The prepatch files should all be 64k (empty) since we aren't using them right now. When you deleted everything it repatched the full 10GB, right? If not you might have been looking at the wrong files.

Coderanger, or any other cryptic rep that has posted here today. Please visit any one of the fifty or so threads pertaining to the problem we're having getting dc'd to the login screen.

Don't think that we don't notice how you are all dodging that issue while helping out people with other issues. Doding this isn't helping build good public relations with your customers.

As I've said before to other "Why don't you respond to everything" comments: I am only one developer and I don't work on the game itself (mostly), I maintain the patching and installation systems. I don't comment on threads I can't usefully add to, since I wouldn't know anything about it other than "they are working on it". We devs aren't magic ;-)

That was the one I did last night as I recall it was a very large file pretty sure it was 10gb, I will do it again if you think it will help.

OK trying a clean install again here's hoping it works this time. Any idea as to why these files keep causing issues for some?

I would suggest deleting your paging file and recreating it. It may be that remnants of the bad file were cached there and the game is drawing from it. Also, get a good HDD sector scanner and let it test the drive and mark bad sectors as unusable.

These are the two most likely things I can think of when you've done a clean install and the same particular file is being reported as corrupted.

It could also be a bad memory register. The file itself may be fine but is being corrupted in memory. I would use memtest86, burn the iso image, boot from it and let it run a full pass on the default test.

Well I will give the paging deletion a try, how might I go about that as I am guessing that's not the same as my cache file?

As to the memory I would suspect that except this did not start happening until this latest patch, and I do not have these issues with other mmo's or games I have played recently.

Well if you still have issues with corrupt resource files i can list some suggestions that "can" cause this.

1: memory fragmentation, aka you have memory that have bad sectors in the outer address range or minor ones, this can cause data to become corrupt when stored (rare issue to be honest)

2: sector failure or about to have sector failure on hdd, again this is relative so a way around it is to dump say 10 gig in the same location as the game is currently and then try to add it again (though doubt it will work) if sector failure it should show up like BSOD, usually does.

3: transfer issue with hdd, both SATA and PATA is known to have issues there, if you have a converter thing going on with your hdd¨s then it can cause this. if this is a sata+pata drive, i suggest try switch cables.

4: Network issues, your download is simply put getting corrupt due to ****** connection, this is normal on wireless (many users on same AP = massive packet loss) So in short, if you are sharing a connection boot them off it and try download again. If still issues then download from a friend who has it working currently.

5:System issues, you have to much **** running in the background when running the system and it simply runs out of resources and hence it swaps to disk for memory and this causes delay and corruption or "dirty catche, CNE /CNA anyone? ;)"

Anyway my 2 cent on the topic.
maybe some of this works, maybe not.

As I have mentioned this all started with latest patch (20th), before that it ran great no issue. But I was willing to admit there was a slight possibility the memory or something else might be bad.

Now this might not be a definitive test but I loaded up another mmo I play that's equally graphics intensive, and a few other games to see if I would have issues that might indicate hardware problems they ran fine?

Have done a 3rd clean install of sto and even rolled back the video drivers for good measure, as they were what I was using prior to patch and still no luck.

Well it can still go either way (though hoping it is just a dl issue)
As even though you used another game, due to code and intensity required (memory usage/gfx demand etc.) It is not always a good indicator that another game work, it can still be HW.

Hmm i should read the whole post before i reply it seems ;)

Ok then i can only suggest you need to rule out the things you cant control, network.
Can you try dl to another pc at a friends place etc?

    Hi,

I been dealing with the issue of corrupt pigg files since start of Beta. I've gotten installer from different places, tried deleting the .hogg files. It would work for a bit then a crash would occur and corrupt the files and gotta start over since I get plagued with the Cryptic Error loader. Luckly Windows 7 comes with alot of testing features such as a built in memory test. Run it on the enhanced mode, used that and learned possible my RAM has gone defective.

I'm in the process of testing which stick of Ram it the issue, but I have a feeling this is going to releave alot of my issues. I have been barely able to log an hour of play on my PC at home cuz of all the problems.

**As of that small patch yesterday the game is running fine. (knock on wood)

Here are some of the types of errors I was getting however:

    System Service Exception
    BugCode USB Driver
    PFN List Corrupt
    Bad Pool Caller

All of these were with the dreaded BSOD, it was after that patch on the 20th that many of these crashes started to pop up. I wish I had noted each crash error as there were so many more, normally within 5 minutes of logging in.

Not sure its a factor but I have the game installed on a external usb TB Hard drive, as I said the game was playing great (pre patch) but with that usb error thinking that might tie into the drive. I may move the game over to another drive and see what happens.

This was a common problem with CO as well, and the typical answer was delete the files and redownload, and sometimes it would fix for a few days or just a few minutes. Just something odd with the file intregity and how the client handles it. It's odd because it can crash from a certain texture (like if it lists a particular type of alien head) and when you log back in and view that head it doesn't crash at all.

I feel ya though, I get the same problem quite often.

OK so after a solid week of not being able to stay logged in for more then a few minutes.

I did a video driver reinstall, a wipe of my HD with a clean windows vista 64 reinstall and full download of the latest release version of the game and let it patch...and I still have the corrupt pig file issue! (cry)

    Please help!

If you have done all that, there is a very good chance either the HD is failing, or (more likely) you have bad RAM.

Well lets hope its the memory as I ordered a couple sticks just in case! ;)

I did check the HD with chkdsk /r and ran the vista memory scan before resulting to all this, no errors but they may have missed it also.
Well if its not the memory I will move everything from the main drive and use that for backup only, and make a new boot partition.
