Anyone any idea what this error is all about. I am full admin in windows 7. Yes it looks like a permissions issue but i have full read write etc checked. Here is the full error.
Game crashes on sto splash.
26 MasterControlProgram[1] ESC : The patchclientlib is internally recording error code : 36\nA file was locked that could not be open for writing. - Unable to read back file C:/Users/Graeme/Desktop/Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online/Live/PhysXLoader.dll!
I'm seeing a similar error in the error log as well and have been unable to get very far in the game (literally the second room I go in freezes) since open beta started. I haven't been able to get any farther than the bridge you immediately go to from the ten forward-ish room that you start in when you start a new character. I am able to hail the Khitomer and get as far as being told to take the turbolift. But after that, when i try to go to the turbo lift I usually get as far as the captain's chair and the game freezes. If I use the task manager to shut down the game and then load the game again and try playing with the same character, I get through the loading screens and end up with a unpopulated image of the last thing I could see before the game froze with music or something and once all that appeared was a starscape also with music playing. This seems somewhat different than what you are all experiencing but it seems similar to me.
Is your situation the same or is it in a different place/different results?
Hey man. Mine freezes instantly on the STO loading splash no music etc. Still there is no doubt a connection. I submitted a support ticket about this 11 days ago but no reply yet. Are you getting an error crash code?
I get nothing, the game just freezes and I can't alt+tab out so i have to ctrl+alt+del and start the task manager. The task manager says that the game is not responding and I have to shut it down using end task. In the error log it lists similar errors to the ones you get.
There is a dev called CodeRanger who seems to know what he is doing. Hopefully come monday he will have a look at these for us. I really want it to work for the headstart im sure you do too.
I actually haven't bought the game because I haven't been able to get it to work yet. If these problems were resolved I would definitely buy the game (perhaps even lifetime) but after trying for quite a while now to get it working, I'm doubtful.
Yeah i got pre order and was stoked for the lifetime thing. Think there would have been a number of people on the forums who would have purchased if it wasnt for the slow tech fixes. Since its beta I dont expect everything to work but some sort of reply is nice... anything at all... please!!!
I too am having the error code 36 problem. I've tried opening a support ticket and gotten nowhere. I have been on hold with tech support for over 30 minutes now. No Bueno...
Here are the contents of my support ticket...
I can launch the game, select my characters specialty, but as soon as I go to the actual character creation page, the game crashes to the desktop. I browsed to C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\errors.txt and found this error in the log file:
100227 20:03:45 2753 [1] ESC : The patchclientlib is internally recording error code : 36\nA file was locked that could not be open for writing. - Unable to read back file C:/Program Files/Cryptic Studios/Star Trek Online/Live/PhysXLoader.dll!
I have a Dell XPS m1530 with an nVidia 8600M GT video card and 4gb of RAM, running Windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried running both the Dell Driver (which is from 10/08) as well the latest nVidia driver for my card which is dated 11/09. The driver version according to the Windows device manager is "8.17.11.9562".
When the game crashes to the desktop, the error I get states:
Fatal Error: Error decompressing data. Verifying Files in the launcher may fix this issue.
Technical Detals: ./piggs/texture3.hogg:
Texture_Library/Costumes/Avatars/Defaults/Default_Forehead_01_N.Wt
ex: Error decompressing data. Verifying Files in the launcher may fix this issue.
I'm still having the problem i posted about so long ago. Would be really interested to see what reply you get from tech support. My ticket has been open for weeks. Please let me know and thanks for posting.
Will do.. I've been on hold for 90 minutes now... A friend of mine gave me a buddy key to test the game out and see how I liked it. I have to say, this isn't confidence inspiring. It's not like I have a crappy computer either...
I DID create a new post (as suggested). It is located here...

IF the game is installed to program files (For some reason vista and 7 dont like games installed here), you will see this error fairly often.
Error code 2506704 came up one time. Tried support ticket like .... 2 weeks ago. Im pretty much outa ideas.
Try running "chkdsk /f" at a command prompt. Sometimes files that reside in a physically damaged part of the disk will show up as locked.
P.S. Don't do this if you're using solid-state drive(s).

I obviously tried that and it didn't work.
