Posted about this before, but have yet to see any kind of official response, so I'll try agaon: during combat(both on ground and in space), I do not hear weapon sounds from my own character/ship. I can hear weapon sounds from OTHER characters/ships(when near them), but not my own. Does anyone know how to fix this?
It could be various things, but at this point it would be just a guess.
There is one mission I came across that I couldn't hear any weapons from both my team and the enemy. Just the background sound effects.
Appearantly you do have sound so, can't say its its sound driver or something else. So here is what I still think what you should try just to see if any changes.
If it happens all the time, perhaps it has to do either with sound setting, video card, or both the drivers. I am sure you already went through all that. But here is a nitch... My brother had no sound what so ever. Told him to disable SLI on his graphic card... voala, he had sound, go figure.
Alternative is to uninstall driver, uninstall sound, and reinstall all. Sometimes helps sometimes not.
Defrag the drive you installed the game. Sometimes when they are fragmented, game tend to run buggy even though its not a bug. Though you may also have to go back to old drivers. Long story short, some of the new drivers cause more harm than good. Oddly enough even Video drivers can cause problem to sound. So double check that.
in dxdiag, make sure you set your sound to medium or good quality. Some games crash or don't work properly when the setting is too low or too high.
Now the long shot guess:
If your motherboard has 2 onboard audio, make sure you disable one in your Bios. It can create conflicts when both are active or just disabled via OS.
Other than that, can't think of anything. Best just try everything, from power, hardware, bio, drivers both on sound and video, onboard systems, etc. Eventually you figure it out. Who knows maybe the USB joystick, controller causes the problem.
