Radeon X1900XT, supported?

My Radeon X1900XT appears to be overheating while attempting to play STO. My computer gives me temperature warnings and the video card fan makes a loud racket.

So far I've tried lowering display quality but it doesn't seem to have worked.

While I could update drivers, this has an unintended side effect on my other games as they are no longer playable; updated drivers remove functionality that supports my video card.

Aside from buying a new video card which I can ill afford, anyone else have some bright ideas?

It's a known issue with newer (>9.7) ATI drivers. Cards are overheating like hell on some games. The only solution is to UNDERclock it. That of course is a matter of trial and error. Try lowering your GPU speed about 5% and memory too. Not a big loss, but still may fix your problem.

You can use ATI Tray Tools, or RivaTuner for that.

I am using Catalyst 7.10 due to the issues of newer catalyst drivers breaking my games. What is the minimum driver version that STO recommends?
