Game just moved itself, messed up Steam...???

So Steam initially installed STO in the "C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online.exe" folder...

I played the game, logged out, went to log back in. The shortcut icon for the game is gone and upon double clicking the shortcut I get an error "Failed to launch Star Trek Online"

I looked around and discovered the game has been moved to the steamapps>common folder. I'm concerned this is going to mess with my pre-purchase and game keys.

Has this happened to anyone else, and can I just move the files back to the Public folder with no worries???

In addition to failing to launch, I can no longer delete the game from Steam. More importantly I cannot view my CD key when I right click the shortcut anymore. :(

first, where the game is installed on your pc does not effect your account which is stored on their servers your preorder stuff should be safe. second by default steam installs everything into their "steamapp" folder, that it possibly installed it anywhere else is odd. if it is in your steamapp folder then you are good as that is where it should be for steam. (i use steam myself)

if steam won't start the game, i would contact steam and see if they can help you out, the game should be in the steamapp folder and you should be able to launch it through steam.

Yeah I use steam for other games, not for this as I didn't buy it. Whatever you download from steam will be kept in your steamapps folder. Those huge gcf files in there are the game files you downloaded. So if all else fails you could just uninstall it, and install it again because your original downloaded files are still safely there.

Okay I found the prob, I'm an idiot. There are two shortcuts, one for STO and one for the STO beta. Being dumb, I switched the target path for the official STO shortcut. Can anyone give me the default file path for STO so I can change it back? I know it's something like public/games....

    Thanks in advance!!

Can you not just delete the shortcut you Fubar'd and make a new one by rightclicking the game in Steam? Or maybe Ive misunderstood?
