Running a dual core, 3.0 GHz. 3 GB ram. Video card is a GTX 260 Maxcore with latest drivers. Windows XP, SP3.
Ran System File Checker and Check Disk recently.
Have re-installed STO several times.
Start the game, launcher comes up, and promptly crashes, getting the same error all the time, 2010828.

I have moved the files to another computer which is identical, except it has a 9800 GTX+, and I can get into Beta on that computer. Don't tell me to play on the other computer. I need to get it working on the first one.

Since the crash is generating a code, someone over at Cryptic should know how to decipher it and find out what is wrong.

Looks like a string conversion error, will load up the memory dump when I get in to the office.

All reported instaces of this crash seem to be from Wine, or at least people using the Gecko emulation for MSHTML in Wine. Do you have a C:\Windows\gecko folder?

No, there are no folders like that. Looked up Gecko, and found it related to Mozilla Firefox. Updated Firefox, no change. Removed Firefox, still getting the same crash.

I have a feeling it may not be showing you the right error ID. Can you please send me your public IP address, since I can use that to look up all your errors. You can use http://ipchicken.com/ if you don't know it.

Updated to version 8 of Internet Explorer. Didn't do that before because I use Mozilla Foxfire. Problem is now solved!

Thanks for the hints that put me looking in the right direction.
