The problem is Internet Explorer. The error message pops up when trying to connect anywhere with it. Why this is a problem, is because STO-launcher uses IE, and it's not possible to switch it to use another browser.
Google confirms that this issue has been on other browsers too, but my problem is with IE that I don't normally use.
I'll continue my research, if anyone can help it's greatly appreciated.
The launcher uses the MSHTML components which is built into of Windows whiich is what IE also uses.I
What's that in English?
Kidding, I have an idea but really no clue, my computer programming skills ended with the C64 BASIC.
But since that is the issue, is there some way that can be fixed so that it doesn't happen again? Or even better, able to change it so that it uses something like FF or Opera?
not really since they are using the native windows os components. Things that you can do to help is
Besure IE is uptodate even if you don't use it. (this helps keeping the window os componets in line and upto date)
besure IE is not set to work offline.
sometimes clearing the IE cache will fix some launcher issues.
Sounds like you may have some program on your machine that installed a BHO or a toolbar, and then complains on startup. HijackThis may help narrow down the cause should it happen again.

I'm having the same issue right now, according to the launcher; the server is up though. :-/
The server is full and they have a rush on more hardware to expand on it.
As to the OP, I have no idea about that message, first I've heard that anyone has had that.

For the DEVS:
Would it be possible to enable choosing of browser for the launcher?
LOL, too true.
Another great IE moment in history... lol
