ATI Cards - Information and Fixes for Crashing

I've been noticing a few threads pop up for these issues lately, so here are some tips for us ATI users.

First, if you have any crash-to-desktop problems whatsoever PLEASE file a bug report as soon as you get them, and also send Cryptic the dump. It'll launch the error logging thing after it happens, just let it do it's work. Might take a bit of time but every piece of information they have will help.

Second, Anti Aliasing has been disabled for the beta due to some issues it was causing. There'll probably be a fix for launch, we've not heard from Cryptic yet so it's a wait-and-see type of thing.

Third, make sure you have the latest drivers. So far there haven't been any known problems with the most recent Catalyst drivers so it's best to eliminate that from the list of possible things straight off. Updated drivers are always the first thing you should check.

No, as to a fix for the crashed, turn off Dynamic Lighting under the Video options. Test the game, particularly ground combat. Give it an hour or so and see if this solves the issue. IF IT DOES FIX YOUR CRASHING, you must report it as a bug. This is incredibly crucial, it's okay fixing stuff so you can continue testing, but if you don't tell Cryptic that this solved your issues then they cannot fix it come release.

SUBMIT YOUR BUG REPORTS.

I've got a 4870, and haven't had many issues except that I'm noticing the temps spike up around 65+ in game, even with settings fairly low.

This is most likely a cooling issue. ATI cards run hot, and if you've got your setting cranked - which is quite possible, seeing as the 4870 is a very nice card - then you're going to notice some spikes. If you're worried, and you're capable, i'd suggest pulling off the heatsink\fan and replacing the thermal goop on there.

I have a Mobility Radeon HD 4650. I have installed latest drivers but the game keeps telling me that I should update them. However, I can run the game with lowered graphics settings. I haven't had the chance to test the game with default graphics settings yet.

The game puts a huge load on the graphics card, even more than MW2 on max settings, there are reports of systems crashing cause of overheating, sounds like a problem with the graphics engine.

    Don't change the cooling

65 isn't even close to crashing temperatures. If it was a graphics engine issue, he'd be seeing 100+ and not just as a 'spike'. I'm not saying there isn't an issue with some cards on this engine, but his problem doesn't seem to be related to that.

Same issue i have the Mobility 3870 Dual and Xfired (or equiv) and even with the most up to date drivers from both laptop manufacturers and ATI, the game still insists i need to update drivers and needs to be run in windowed lowered mode which is about 800x600 pixels big (not resolution) which is quite frankly pathetic.

It's most likely NOT a heating issue!

Cryptic probably just gets payed by Nvidia by inplementing ATI drivers right after launch.

You CAN solve ATI issues 90% of the time by installing ATI Tray Tools. And enable "Geometry Instancing" if it isn't enabled. (which probably is) Most of the time, installing this is enough! (At least is was for me)

Use the beta tools if you have a ATI HD 2xxx, 3xxx or 4xxx card.
