I just began playing and saw that it might be a good idea to make a post where people could put thier ideas for improvment in game play.
First thing I noticed is it is a pain to have to hit "F" to do much of anything, make it a simple left click on the object you wnat to interact with. I would make it simpler and a little less clunky.
The text boxes are so big they take up half the screen and it would be much better if there was a voice over explanation rather than wordy text in a solid box.
Make the text box semi-transparent and add voice dialog please.

You can apparently double-click a flashing console to activate it rather than pressing the F key.

If you go into the options you will see a slider to scale the UI down a little which vastly improves the situation I find. I agree with you about more voice for the early missions. Reading all that text when it's all new to you and with stuff firing at you on occasion is a head-wreck.
I think this is very important and will make the game more like Star Trek then any other one idea I have seen posted. I hope you contact them or put in a ticket for the suggestion, because I would hate to see this get out of beta without away to voice what we want.
1. I think you should have a choice if you want to conduct the battle from the ship or the bridge. ST Bridge Commander game was built on this concept and it was a great game...too short but a great game. We should start a petition for this feature ASAP. What Star Trek episode or movie have you seen without the battle conducted from the bridge....um ya none. This is a key Star Trek point. And ya I know its probably going to take a lot and I mean a lot of work on the Devs part, but they have done so much for the game I know they want to make this game the best it can be.
2. Sector Space is so far out there and a waste of graphics. Anyone want to look out their window.....Where is sector space it looks too real to be a map or chart and it is too far removed from real space to be believable. This has to be fixed too.
Both these Items are deal breakers for this game I hope they realize this cannot be Star Trek without these 2 issues addressed and fixed....
Please post ideas how anyone thinks we can get this done...don't let this get over looked before beta is over. Please...
I primarily think they should even out the factional play styles myself as well as fix the load time issue because thier are still some of us that have that issue.
Another issue that is still around is loading into your bridge and going between surface to space and vice versa you can sometimes be a captain in space or a ship on the ground.
I remeber a fun instance of this when I went to warp as my ground avatar in space lolz...
Besides these things Cryptic should probably fix some target facing issue where the camera locks on with your target as you move so you can see where it is in relation, and make a fire all weapons hotkey macro for like the 1-9 keys that would help most players with some control issues so they can steer with the mouse and just press 1 key if they want to set it up to fire all thier guns.

In the films and series there isn't one man in charge of every aspect of controlling the ship from sensor information (situational awareness, i.e. your external camera in STO) through to power management and science skills. There are 5-6 officers who haven been delegated those tasks. To allow just one player to control the ship there has to be a certain UI. Sitting in your captain's chair in a battle sounds good but think about it. You'll be restricting your view to this tiny part of your monitor and all that bridge detail novelty will quickly wear off as you find yourself desperately searching for that Bird of Prey that's just flown over behind you. The devs have said from day one, this is a game not a simulation of life as a Stafleet Officer.
I'm not sure what your gripe with sector space is to be honest. It just seems you don't like it but they need some way to compress vast space into a navigable map and that's what sector space does. It's still early days though, maybe it'll be more clear what the big ribbon things are over time lol
I agree, with you on the NPC dialog boxes being to large and that they pop up in the middle of the screen. This stlye of intraction could be improved with the dialog was at the top of the screen and not right in mid view. Would be my opinion.
All NPC's should have some sort of dialog. Even a basic greeting or something.
You should be able to turn your camera without turning your toon. You can't even see your face.
Just wanted to let you know Docjeckle that you can. If you hold the left mouse button, you should be able to do a 360 degree turn around your character.
Thanks OP for putting up the post. Simple but the right idea.
What I'd like to see:
As many people have pointed out: more variety in the missions and possible approaches to missions. I'm sure Cryptic is working on this already and I don't expect them to have it done overnight. But, the thing I was and am still looking forward to is the flexibility in Star Trek. I've played my fair share of mmo's (around 20) and beta tested about 5 so I have a little experience. What I really want to see more of is the non-linearity in mission approaches.
Sidenote: love the klaxons for Red Alert. As an audio drama producer, where I can only rely on sound to set a stage and make i feel real, I know how vital the little things are. The klaxon is a small addition but it's one more thing that brings us into the universe that many of us have grown up with and come to love. For that and the other little things, you have my thanks.
Thanks for the pointers and the other good ideas. Like I said I just started about an hour ago and saw a few things that seemed like a little tweak would help. Keep em coming.

The known issues page on the web site states that the loading screens are a work in progress. Perhaps they'll improve this over time.

Players should read.
This is for bugs there is a forum for feedback.
Yes this would be a great idea! I'd love to see multiple choice dialog that could steer the way a mission ends.
