Game crashes approximately every 10-15 minutes

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
I am experiencing a fairly consistent crashing issue, which does not seem to be tied to any particular activity or locale in the game environment. It has occurred in sector space, at Earth Spacedock, in both space and ground combat, and even at the character select screen. Included below is my DXDIAG information.

I hope Cryptic attends to this particular issue. I have a friend with this problem.

I hope so too. I would be interested to know what the fix would be as I too have a friend with this issue.

I had great success using CCleaner to take care of registry issues. That made me go from crashing every 10-15 mins to playing for two hours with no problems other then hella' lot of rubberbanding.

I ran CCleaner on my system, and turned off Dynamic Lighting, but the crashing continues. This most recent crash occurred after 36 minutes and 55 seconds of play time, while I was on Regulus IV defusing spatial charges.

Another crash, same planet and mission, at 43 minutes and 58 seconds. So, the changes I've made have helped some, but not cured the issue.

I guess I will chime in as well and say that I am also crashing every 10-20 minutes. Before the latest patch I wasn't having any problems with the client crashing. So I don't know, I think the patch might have had something to do with it.

The crashing issue is continuing, and the time seems to be variable. The longest I have been able to play without a crash was 1 hour 45 minutes 54 seconds (I have a timer on my G15 keyboard I have been keeping track with). The shortest time to date was 2 minutes 35 seconds.

does it happen only when you go to a new area with loading screen or randomly in game?. Mine has been at load screens. I thought the internet was timing out. It does for my safari and firefox browsers but not my iE.

A friend of mine is having a similar problem, in both CO and STO. It also happens in Dawn of War, though, so it's not something exclusive to the Cryptic engine, but it only happens running those three. Massive processor spike leads to overheat and crash.

It can happen at any time: In space or ground combat, while traveling sector space, moving around Earth Spacedock, or even just at character select.

having attempted to help my friend and the OP I can tell you it is not an overheating issue and that it is isolated in STO as well as CO.

This might not be an issue, but you might check your voltages. STO used to crash constantly for me, where other games wouldn't. I eventually fixed it by upping the voltage to the RAM to 1.6, which was what it was designed for (looked it up) but hadn't been set to. Once I did that there were no more problems. Still unclear why it was never an issue before.

My friend's comp can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. It is higher end a custom gaming rig that is only about 2 years old. The one problem it has is it is a XP PRO 64 system and does have a Realtek on-board audio but the audio is disabled via the launcher, which should nix that problem. I have recommended getting an alternative sound card only she he can actually have sound but that does not solve the crash problem. It will only solve the sound problem.

I guess I should post my instances of this problem so the devs have another reason to look at this.

When I play, I also get crashes that occur around 5-10 minutes of game play. Though it normally happens when I'm doing ground combat, I haven't had any occurances in space but I'm not going to say it's not going to happen. I thought putting it in safe mode and reducing it to windowed mode alleviated the issue, but it crashed before I got to Vega and the server was too busy to let me back in. I wish there was an answer for me because I like the game and want to play it some more.

My most recent crash occurred while on a space mission, after 1 hour 36 minutes 5 seconds of playtime. I was in pursuit of the S.S. Nandi, a Ferengi freighter that had stolen some kemocite from Starbase 114. Nausican vessels had intercepted my pursuit and I had just destroyed the first of them.

I've been having this issue too. The game crashes after about 10-15 mins of running, regardless of where I am or what I am doing. Its been particularly bad recently. When beta first started I could run for some time without any trouble, and the trouble I had I figured was nothing more than I should expect from the beta. Since Friday its been crashing frequently. The game might as well be unplayable for me right now.

Try this to fix the rubberband effect.
    Use Nvidia 190.62 driver
    AA is at 2x
    Screen-Space Ambient Occlusion : OFF
    Depth of Field : OFF
    Shadows : LOW

I was in the Mara system, assisting the npc vessel U.S.S. Merek in clearing an Orion incursion into the system as part of a patrol mission. The game crashed after 10 minutes and 32 seconds of play.
