Cant log in from 5pm GMT onwards

hi, its been working great all day no lag fast log in's

From about 5pm ruffly GMT i tried loggin in and it keeps saying connection failed when it eventually does load to the character screen it never gets past retreiving character info or gets into the game.

more to the point, it takes ages to even get to the retrieving character point, which this morning, i was in the game in 30 secs

so somethings obvsiously up, and i had been singing its prasies all day as well..

its probably just busy times either GMT or somewhere, im simply letting you know that theres a problem and that it needs some attention rather than assuming well its busy so youll just have to wait till 10pm to log in, thats about all i can do really, not complaining, i know its beta, just letting you know..

cheers
rich

I totally agree I know its beta etc but surely they could see this would be a busy time for the brits and boost the server maybe? I dont know how this works but it is getting a bit annoying everyday!

see if they would let us know that they are load testing or something ? some kind of schedual or announcment to let us know when they will be doing testing or why its slow at 5pm on wards GMT.

if my constant screaming at the screen becuase it wont log in for 5 hours every night is genuinly helping cryptic with something them im all for helping out. happy too

I've been having the same problem. The game was fine this morning and then at about 5pm I select my character and all I get is the loading screen. I had to Ctrl, Alt, Del to exit the game and I saw that my CPU usage had spiked to almost 95% and then the game stopped responding and I was able to force the game to shut down.

All my Drivers are up to date.

I've been getting this for the past few days..

It is true that a lot of people will be on traffic managed ISP's and 5pm onwards is considered peak hours.. but i've been keeping an eye on the bandwidth required to play.. and it doesn't seem to be massive.. even in traffic managed networks (mine)

I do think this is an issue with server loading as I often disconnect when I visit very popular areas such as Starbase 24.. however, I wen't back to some of the starter zones (i'm lvl 8) when there was noone around at 7pm lastnight.. very smooth for the most part

I really want to get a lifetime sub.. but if i can't consistently connect then I won't

I think there have been enough posts on this for the Development team to post a SERIOUS response.. not just that they have an EU proxy

Thing is it can't be an issue with the guys in the US playing..

    5pm GMT = 11AM East Coast & 8AM Pacific Coast

Most of the time that the guys in the UK/EU are playing the Yanks are going to be at work..

This is a server loading issue combined with Ping.. Nettest gives me a ping of about 150 which is the same as if I ping the East Coast of the Usa using speedtest.net

My isp has a web-based control panel which lets me see if traffic management is active on my connection, which it is'nt.

However is still cannot play in the evening UK time, server not responding errrors everytime i switch sectors or join instances.

its good to know im not on my own and i also even saw another thread stating the same thing just now! its obviously affecting a fair few people. given that only a small percent of any game user use forums compared to those that use a game.

Does anyone know if you set EU proxy if it has an effect?

Theres just no information on what those options do..

although i do suffer from traffic managment i think its a massive cop out if cryptic use that one as an excuse, none of my other mmos are affected at this time so STO should simply what ever they are doing..

Weve been a bit of an after thought for everything in the eu havent we :(

I'm in the UK, on a pretty poor ISP connection. I've only ever had trouble logging in when the server is either down, or the login server is shot.

I've tried the EU proxy and it did make a small difference.. i checked this by going back to the US/None setting and it was awful

This may be resolved at launch by people spreading out.. I have noticed that zones with less people in are playable.. but that won't make a difference at the start.. (headstart will effectively be voided)

AND if its not.. then you've either spent a lot of money if you want a lifetime sub (I DO) only to find out that your nerfed from playing at the times that you are most able to

Also.,. I've tested a few other MMO's from my place (friends account) and there is no problem

Id be tempted for the lifetime but as of closed beta and open beta combined ive still not had a complete day of normal play... if its the same at launch then i wont even continue the monthly sub let alone a life time on principle, they only get away with beta until the 2nd in my book. After that its bad mmo territory.. But thats getting way ahead of ourselves theres a while left yet.. fingers crossed

traffic managemtn is more than bandwidth control . it is delaying low priority packets so higher (paying ) traffic is passed. game traffic or traffic that looks like p2p traffic is filtered or delayed during peak time.
down load nettest and run it during times when you have problems and when you can play normal. (cycling problems usually is an indication of packet managment.)

    Nettest:
    Go to files.champions-online.com/nettest.exe
Download this file and run it
A command prompt should appear running the test automatically
Do alt prtscn (besure the nettest windows is the active window) to Copy and paste the results in paint and save as jpeg and attach it in a post in this forum
Good results have column 1 and 3 with values around 300- 500kb/sec, column 2 with 20kb/sec

Will never happen... you have to move to an ISP that doesn't traffic manage their network

my point is right now all my other games work! theres going to be a million other people on skys broadband. if cryptic doesnt want to fix it, that simply means more money in my pocket each month ;)

other older games have already had thier dealing with traffic shapping and have rule added to allow thier packets priority. only one, unless you hsave like 5 million users like Wow , that can make the isp change things, is you as you are the one providing them with money.

I've given up trying to play in the evening now. Closed beta was fine, but now I can't test the game. If it hasn't improved by the end of open beta I'm going to cancel my preorder.
