HowTo: Fix GPU overheatage

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
This brought my GPU usage down by 60%(on the main screen) and overall temperature by 10-15C

I use an NVidia 9800GTX+

Step 1, login via the launcher, patch up, etc

Step 2, press back, and go to the games internal login screen

Step 3, press options, Click Video, check Show Advanced Settings, then disable dynamic lighting.

In my case I already had most options disabled, but this brought the GPU usage down, nothing else helped.

Your mileage may vary?

Hope this helps.

    I'm trying this now.

I'm running an 8800GT on a 2.4 QUAD CORE, 4G RAM, and Vista 32 (plenty of fans and a good power supply) and my shizzle has been cooking. Let's hope this helps!

Not so much yet. Just alt-tabbed out and noticed my GPU temp was at 100. Grr. I don't get this problem with other games.

"Half-resolution" is the only thing that seems to help. It makes the game look like #(%&%#, but I guess until I figure out what's wrong... that'll have to do.

    Or just enable vsync.

This might be a moot point but if you are using a Nvidia card, try this.

Disable Physx under Nvidia Control Panel (NCP)
    Force vsync "on" under NCP

Under "Manage 3D settings" click "Global Settings" and set "Power management mode" to "Adaptive"
Also get Rivatuner "www.guru3d.com" and force the fan to 100%.

    Hope something here helps.
