Install: Program is too big to fit in memory

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
Downloaded the setup from Fileplanet, and when i got to activate it, it states that it cant fit in memory and shuts off.

I have 2 Gigs of memory and 6 Gigs of virtual memory
I am running a Intel Core 2 6700 at 2.67 GHz
I am running 32 bit Windows 7
I have a 250 GTS NVIDIA Graphics card

This is very irritating, as i have been trying to download the game for days now, and now that i have it, it will not install.

I am having the same problem. I have 4 gigs of physical memory, so there is no reason this game should not be able to install and run on my system.

    What is up with this?

I have had a similar error. >.< I have more room than the download needs but it got to 99% downloaded (after 6 hours) and says there's nto enough room. Then, it exits the dowload and nothing was accomplished. I've double checked, but It's an error. It appears that I won't even be able to reach the install page. :(

Please remember that the revised system requirements point to needing more than 2GB of RAM to run smoothly. Plus a lot of people forget to turn off memory-eating programs. I myself use a virus scanner that detects games and reduces it's footprint accordingly, plus the Windows Vista/7 Superfetch feature really doesn't help gamers so you could try turning it off and see if the memory problems were caused by Superfetch not cleaning the cache correctly. Worst.. Windows... Feature.. Ever.

Are all you guys running XP? with Fat32 hard drive partitions?

My first suggestion would be to format your hard drives and rebuild them with NTFS partition sizes. This also leads to my second point which is, most people never bother re-installing windows. Having a 2 year old copy of windows won't help you run STO any better.

My PC is less than a month old. Brand new install of Windows 7. I have 4 gigs of RAM in my PC.

    I still get this problem.

Make sure you check how much hard drive space you have left.

7gb is a lot to swallow for a download and the install will make it even bigger, so make sure you have plenty open. I usually like to have no less than 20GB free hard drive space at any given time.

Turns out that my download of the Client setup was corrupted.

I have re-downloaded from File Planet and the installer works fine.

Program is too big to fit in memory is talking about hard drive space, your hard drive must be full or something. Memory and Hard Drive space are 2 different things, one is for saving files/installing the other is for running programs. Your memory is wiped everytime you restart your computer.

Yes, but I just said that I have over 400 gigs of hard drive space free. This is pretty much a brand new PC. Does the install need more then 400 gigs????
