What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

I can't download the open beta client anywhere!

I can't download the client. Just ordered the game on direct 2 drive, whenever I go to click the download button all I get is a message saying "Error converting data type varchar to smalldatetime."

So then I've tried downloading from mirrors on other sights and NONE of them work. I've tried this on two PC's so the problem can't be my end! Has anyone else got this issue?

Anyone able to offer any help? Anyone know of any download mirrors for the client that are working at the moment? Cheers.

Have you tried the torrent downloader (Star Trek Downloader)? That should work pretty much anywhere, though if your ISP is blocking torrents it may be very slow to download. Other than that the best I can say is to contact D2D support :-/ Maybe try uninstalling their download tool and then using a browser like Chrome or Safari? In theory that should just give you a straight HTTP download of the zip file (which you can open with 7zip).

Also have that problem. I've resorted to downloading the same from 5 different mirrors plus torrent. They all move really slow but i'm hoping atleast one of them doesn't end up corrupted like last night.

Do you have a link for the star trek downloader torrent you mentioned?

I've tried D2D again, still the same message, I've tried ten ton hammer, aus gamers, atomic gamer etc. and any google links when I search for STO open beta client- none of these seem to be working :s

http://installers.crypticstudios.com/Star%20Trek%20Downloader%20ST.0.20100108a.0.exe Thats the mini torrent client. It isn't as flexible as a "real" client, but it should download.

I have the same error with DIrect2Drive and contacted support - but alas I'm still waiting to here back from them. Torrents and other download places are very slow. Totally sucks, Day 2 of no Beta !

You can sign up to fileshack for a month. It's only 1 dollar for your first month.(if you do make sure you cancel before the end of the first month or they'll charge you 6.99 each additional month) I signed up last night. I got a corrupted download after it finished. It took 5 and a half hours from there for me, so it'll prob go by faster than the other sites you have to wait in line at. I was also getting slow speed on the torrent, so I figured I'd dish out a buck for the faster speeds.

I'm hoping they fixed whatever was wrong with the fileshack download last night however. I know numerous people who had trouble getting corrupted files from there. But I've had the torrent going for over 24 hours and I'm only at 30 percent, So I paused that like a half hour ago and I'm going to give fileshack another shot.

Good luck anyways. I'm still looking foward to playing as soon as I can.

This has been a disaster of a start, one of the worst I've seen. Better part of 3 days, and still unable to download the game. Two failed downloads and a 1% an hour download in progress, this is a complete turnoff. Please don't blame the hosts either...you should have considered this up front. At this rate, I might have my boxed game before the beta is downloaded.

 exaggerated much? I understand you're frustrated and obviously angry too. But thousands of people have been able to download their client by now. And there are many download options! Torrent, direct, file planet, from your pre-order reseller if you went with a digital copy, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if the open beta client is unofficially floating around on other torrents on the Internet by now. Really, with all of these options there's no excuse to lay blame unless your own Internet connection or geographic location is to blame.

i disagree, yes thousands have been able to get in but an equal amount has not, from what i am reading on the forums, yes there are many site to downlad from but they all are having corruption issues the only people who have been getting in or those who downloaded through their retailer site when possible. the only site i hear of that are working are places like bigdownload.com and cryptic didnt even put them on their list of places to go

Another fanboi defending the company when they royally screwed up? The poster you replied to along with myself are just a couple of customers out of many that are experiencing the same difficulties with obtaining the client.

Every other MMORPG I have ever played prior to this one had a reliable in-house method of downloading the client. One shouldn't have to go to some 3rd party site like Fileplanet to obtain the client.

its not my location either, i download torrents all the time and i get 200 kb transfer rates and up lots of the time (with popular torrents) for some reason this is just going SO SLOW. i tried the STO downloader, i got an average download speed of 5kbs, now im doing the bittorent route, im getting a download speed of 20 kbs and an up speed of ~45 kbs. im downloaded another file to update my graf-x card and:....wait for it....

    wait for it....

    download speed = 359 kbs...
in short its not me or my locale, that is unless you consider NYC the middle of nowhere. and no im not angry, just a bit miffed its such an issue to download such a small file :p

Precisely. Cryptic has handled this very poorly. End of story.

but you can turn off the attitude. I have a solid internet connection, over 10 meg service, on a full gaming rig. I've beta tested at least 10 games from Everquest on, playing that game for over 7 years, so I feel comfortable standing by my criticism. I play EVE, going on 4 years, so I know my space MMO as well.
I should not need to pay to download, visit "questionable" sites, or download risky software to access any major label beta test, period. The statistics I provided were accurate, right down to the 1% an hour I'm getting off the torrent.
You are damn right I'm frustrated and angry. And if I'm voicing that here, it means there are many more who are equally angry and just won't bother to post. Looking at the threads, I certainly am not alone.
A disc should have been provided for the pre-orders to eliminate this mess, since there are few companies which can handle hundreds of thousands of folks trying to download 17 gig at once ( the initial 7 and to 10 patch). Beta testers provide a service, solving many issues before launch date. If we can't get in, it means a higher chance of a bad launch. And bad launches doom games since your most diehard fan base is lost. See Star Wars Galaxies for what happens when you lose the base (played that too for 3 years, sadly).
So please fix the download problem, since if I'm having it in the Chicago area, others are likely suffering worse in the sticks.
    Peace ;)
