I dont think you guys are realizing the frustration thats being spilled in these forums with regardss to the Beta Download. there is a lot of talk about returning preorders and giving up. a lot of people paid alot of money to preorder this game with the hope of gaining acces to the beta and head start but what we are seeing doesnt bode well for our hopes. if this is any sign of the headstart to come we might as weel just return everthing because the headstart will be over by the time most of us can even download the patches for it. I really want to see this game do well and so I am pleading please do something to fix this.
i agree completely. I am a fileplanet subscriber. It still took me about 6-7 hours to download this game last night. I wake up thismorning to find that the setup file is corrupt and wont load properly. I am a huge Star Trek fan, but like alot of other people I think the last good one to come out was Bridge Commander. If you guys don't get your *hit together and do something about this, that will still be the last good one to come out.
my big fear is for the headstart (the whole reason i did the preorder) but it would be over by the time i would have it downloaded if it follows this same path. the star trek fans are loyal fans but they are not forgiving and even a bad expeirence in the beta will turn alot of them away ( i know cause i am one) and it happend with alot of the other games
We have a number of new download partners available, and yet more coming in the next few days. If you don't see one you like right now, check back at the end of today and you might.
I thought so originally too but it seems to be a common problem across the board. i am currently downing the STO downloader but i am hearing alot of people on hour 30 of that download.
I can't even download the client. Just ordered the game on direct to drive, whenever I go to click the download button all I get is a message saying "Error converting data type varchar to smalldatetime." I've tried downloading from mirrors on other sights and NONE of them work. I've tried this on two PC's so the problem can't be my end! Anyone else got this issue? Anyone able to offer any help?

I downloaded from d2d and it went fine. Only took an hour too which was pretty awesome.
That error is a MS SQL Server error. I have no idea why you would be getting it.
i'll tell you from what i am hearing this has been a great example of how obsolete in store purchases are now. everyone the went through D2D or steam had no problems it looks like everyone how bought from in store is getting hammered. this will deffinately be the last game i buy in store.
Let it be known also, i have no plans to give up on this, i have had really high hopes for this game and have been following it and a site member since May2009 i just wanted to let the devs know there are a lot of ****ed people on the forums. Remember everyone that this is just a beta so its gonna have problems. thats whats its suppossed to happen and i am glad we are hammering them out here instead of when the head start comes out.

COME ON!
FilePlanet downloads are alwys corrupt. Its nothing but scam.
So i just check my download at home and using the STO downloader thats been going since 0700 it is at 2% and going at .56mb/sec i tried atomic gamer also but the wait is 30 min so i'll see if that loads any faster
Hi guys It could very well be your broadband. I downloaded mine from fileplanet sunday and was fine. Ok it was downloading between 58k and 350k but then theres a huge ammount of fans downloading, which is why Cryptic are selling it on a disk, for those with issues. Im not flaming i'm suggesting a possibility. Also try your broadband connection at the site below. I have no idea if it works outside the UK but give it a shot. It will tell you on packet loss/ line condition etc
return your preorders and buy it on steam, then you can start download, pause it, comp restarts? no problem resumes back where it is. and its free unlike fileplanets premium scam.

This gets my vote. I'm cancelling my £25 pound order and placing one with steam for £40. This is crazy, but I'm starting to **** off my family with all the scottish expletives coming out of me each time the loading fails at 10% after yet another failed attempt to sort it. I've been downloading permanently since Saturday night now!
faaa yaa yii bassa (say it really quickly everytime it crashes, it helps)

Your cat five cables are either bad or fileplanet's upload service is so weak that it is making the transfer corrupt. Its their incentive to pay for the high download speed they offer through subscription. If you don't like fileplanet's style of business and paying for servers (which is to make money, yes it may sound strange to you) then you should download somewhere else, lots of other places. D2D gave me 8 gigs in 1.5-2 hours.
It is rather disappointing to have downloaded the client twice only to get incomplete (6.4gig file from FileShack) or corrupted (7.7gig file from FilePlanet) material...I'm personally in hour 3 of a DL with AtomicGamer, the only regret here is that it won't DL faster than 150kb/s. Please no corruption *crosses fingers*
I did my homework, i got the collectors addition which comes with a bunch of non electronic stuff you can get if you DL only. and honestly i dont think i should have to pay fileplanet to download something that i already paid for. i remember when fileplanet used to be the go to place and now the just squeeze every last penny out of visitors.
Don't blame Cryptic for Fileplanet's shortcomings. I DLed through D2D and it took a total of 2 hours including install and patch.
Can I blame them for the one I got from fileshack that was missing files after being 100 percent complete. Everyone I heard of from fileshack had problems. I don't think fileshack packed the file. I think cryptic screwed up on there end and sent out a broken zip. Not everyone has the time or bandwidth to download 7 gigs over and over.
You ladies should use the bittorrent download. Took me no more than 3 hours to download the client from start to finish on a shoddy connection. As for your complaints here, they should be directed at those places you're downloading from. It's their issue, not Cryptics.
I thought so originally too but it seems to be a common problem across the board. i am currently downing the STO downloader but i am hearing alot of people on hour 30 of that download.
Count me as one of these. I'm using the STO downloader. I started about 10:00 AM on Monday. I've had it running all but 3-4 hours since, and I'm currently at about 68%.
And no, it's not my DSL. During one stretch when I shut the STO download off, I downloaded a 250mb+ game on my PS3 in 30 minutes flat. If I was getting similar speed from the STO downloader, I'd have loaded STO in about 16 hours. As it stands, it's going to take about 80. And it's not because of load on my server or connection. Most of that time has been with none of the other computers or game systems in the house even turned on.
I'm not mad, yet... it's beta, and it's free. But I'm definitely unimpressed. And I can't say this gives me a lot of confidence in the whole STO operation.
I wish I could use bittorrent. But the blame for that lies with my current provider...they immediately cap off your bandwidth if you start up a P2P service...grrrrrr I long for my fios
yea anyone who did it through Stream or D2D had not problems, it just those of us who order from a stor and then had to go through a 3rd party to download, a mistake i wont make again. but i currently have the STO downloader and bigdownload.com goin and its slow but they both seem to be working. so we'll see

Great, just what I want to hear, as that's the only one that would download at a decent speed (currently hovering between 400-550 kb/sec and it's telling me 3 hours to finish).

Tried that, too, and it was hovering between 2 days and... 25 days to finish. No one was seeding it, and it was worse this afternoon than it was at 3 AM.
Also tried the downloader, and that was the most pitiful download speed I've ever seen, wouldn't go above 0.25 KB/sec, and most of the time sat at 0.
I didn't pre-order and just figured I'd give the game a shot because I've always wanted to try a sci-fi MMO, but I'm not going to spend several days trying to download the game. If the Fileshack download is corrupt or incomplete, I'm done.
Edit: Also, for those of you who said the file was corrupted, I hope you saw this posted on the official download page:
Please note that some of our partners host the client as one large zip file, which requires a third-party unzipper like WinRAR or 7-Zip to open. (Windows' unzip tool will corrupt the zip file.)
I did order via D2D but i downloaded the game via the Game launcher, with no problems at all in 5 hours fully installed and patched and runs like a charm, so if the normal downloader doenst work or via D2D and other, go for the launcher.

COME ON!
Maybe it's a problem on your side? (Please don't take that as an insult. It was meant as a suggestion)

Ha, Unfortunately no, its not the first, but i give you props for finding it so fast
