I am Creating this post so that when people find a solution to a problem they can post it here. Please post the problem symptoms and the corrosponding solution. If the devs Sticky this Topic and it is used as intended, it could be a very helpful topic. If you are having problems and have found no Solution this is NOT the topic to post that in. For ongoing problems please search for a post of someone having the same problem and add to that post. If you can not find someone having the same problem please post a new topic on the problem. Others and Myself will be periodically reading the topics of others so as to help solve your problems and then will post in the topic where the problem was announced and also post here the problem and solution. If we work together we can solve many of the current issues and help Cryptic to prepare for the path to 2409.

Wander if we can get this post Sticky'd

If you are running windows vista 64 please attempt to install the game on a drive other than the root drive as UAC in vista 64bit may hinder the games ability to open and change dll's and other files within the root dir that is why i now run windows 7 ultimate 64bit as they added the ability to disable UAC.

If you have issues try to Run the game as Admin
to do this simply go to the install location (this may very. for win 32bit aka win x86 the default is C:\Program Files\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online.exe and for 64bit aka x64 the default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online.exe) Right click the exe file Star Trek Online and click properties then click the compatibility tab and check the box "run as Administrator"

If the game gives you a black screen and will not load
When you log in, in the upper left corner (BEFORE YOU CLICK ENGAGE) there is an options button. If you click options then put the game in safe mode it will play, although it will appear as though it freezes on the loading screen but just let it be a second and it resumes the load.

If theese fixes do not work for your problem then please do as i asked in my inital post and place that in another topic of the same problem or post a new topic. Please do not clutter this topic with unresolved problems so that it may serve its intended use.

Sometimes the newest Graphics drivers are not the best ones to play particular games so if you are having Graphic related issues try downloading an OLDER driver for your card and COMPLETELY UNINSTALLING the the current driver then reboot and install the "older driver" you may wish to try a few differant driver versions untill you get one that works the best. But always remember to...
1: Download and Save the new Drivers (do not install them yet)
2: Completely Uninstall Drivers From The Add/Remove Programs in The Control Panel.
    3: Reboot The PC
4: Install the Newly Downloaded Drivers
    5: Reboot PC again
If you find a Driver Version that works the best with your card please post the card type and model and the driver version. such as G-force 8800GTX OC AGP 512mb - Driver version 168.72 That is just an example of how to post it and not a driver/card configuration i have determined to be a best suit.

If you downloaded the setup and it is compressed aka .7z .rar .zip then...
I've noticed a lot of people have been complaining that they are unable to run the setup file after DL the client. So not try to run setup from the compressed folder, first extract everything to a temporary folder, the setup file will switch from the generic windows installer file to the Star Trek logo and will actually work without crashing explorer.

I am making this thread for all those people out there that dont have bit torrent and dont know how to use it or what a torrent is ( dont worry, I was once just like you). Since bit torrent is by far the fastest way to download the client, using it is important. So here goes.....

Step 1: go to http://www.bittorrent.com/ and click the big green FREE DOWNLOAD button in the get bit torrent box. You will be taken to another page where the download should pop up, if it doesn't, click on the part that states "click here if your download does not start". Chose run or if you want a copy for later save. Follow the instuctions to download.

Step 2: When the download completes run the program and follow the guide to install bit torrent on your computer.

Step 3: Open bit torrent for the first time. Close the automatic tip box if it comes up, there will be plenty of time to read that later. In the upper left next to "file" click "options" and select "preferences". Now the options menu will appear. First select "bandwidth" from the upper left side of the box. Now look for the line that read" Maximum number of connected peers per torrent" and replace the number in that box with 1,000.

Next click "BitTorrent" along the left again. At the top under "Basic BitTorrent Features" make sure there is a check mark in the following boxes: Enable DHT Network, Enable DHT for new torrents, Enable Local Peer Discovery, Enable Peer Exchange.

Step 4: Almost done. The last thing to do is go to http://www.startrekonline.com/download and click on "torrent" under Download Via BitTorrent. A window will pop up and you will probly get a window labled "Internet Explorer Security" asking about BitTorrent. Click allow. Now your screen will switch to your bitTorrent program and it will have a box with the star trek online client in it. Click OK at the bottom and off you go! Just wait a few seconds and you will see a connection establish for the download that will show the speed. Kick back and relax, watch some t.v. read a book, ect. When the download finishes in a few hours ( I use the term "Few" loosely) later either right click on the star trek online client file in bitTorrent and select open or go into my computer, users, (whatever user you are), and then downloads, then select the star trek client file.

Well I hope this is helpful to all you guys out there trying to get on the game good luck and have fun:cool:

on a side note you can also use the app Utorrent found here:
    http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/complete?os=win
I like it better than bittorrent but that is just a preference issue

I have UAC disabled and I'm still getting issues re; x64bit vs x32bit.

    I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate.

Due to the UAC limitations of Vista 64bit try installing on another drive or a folder outside of the root dir. don't install in windows or program files folder. Also the only way to deactivate the UAC in vista 64bit is through a command prompt and this only deactivates it for the next reboot and all following reboots reapplies the UAC. I have heard of other Pirated versions of vista 64 having the UAC perminately disabled but i would question what the stripping of the UAC would do to the OS and if due to that you would have other issues. (I am not implying that you have a pirated version of windows just stating what I know of UAC in the vista 64 environment.
