This is the Beta launch, not the public launch, stil time to fix things.. though it was kinda annoying beaming up to my ship only to get a map full message and to be kicked off.

This is OPEN BETA. Not LAUNCH. This was to be expected.

Maybe so, but not this bad...it was actually decent this past week in Closed beta...its like they took a huge step backwards...that, of the network engineers dont know what they are doing behind the scenes. :)

Think about how many people were playing CB.... I'm 100% certain that the number of people trying to play now has increased exponentially.

I personally have no idea how full space was in closed beta, it's pretty crowded now.
Every open beta of a new mmo goes through the same ordeal, servers are bound to get hammered. Thing is: that's one of the biggest reasons to have an open beta.

Give them some time to adjust to the masses.

Then it's time we expected more from companies. Not accept the same failures over and over and over again.

My sentiments, being beta dont ecuse the poor server performance... Dont forget guys they were happy to take your cash... They knew how many pre order sales had been made its just poor planning and investment!!!

This is not closed beta. I'd expect problems during cb. This is open beta, basically dress rehearsal for launch, and advertisement. I was through months of CB, had no problems with their server problems then. Open beta is different.

I have been involved with a few betas and launches so this type of thing is to be expected. They purposely kill the servers so they can test the limits of them. Stressing the servers is important to find out how they will react on the launch day. As far as I know we are 3 weeks from launch so its a long time yet.

Time is what I don't have. In 2 hours I go to work, starting 6 night shifts, so basically today was my best chance at seeing this for a week.

One thing we know for a fact is that Cryptic employees are working hard right now, and in full swing.

While the amount of traffic is breaking things, we have no idea if Cryptic ran into an unknown in the equation that is network traffic and server processing. This is why it's still beta and not release.

You mean that they are letting me help them test their game for free? Yeah, bunch of jerks. And no, this is not 'paid' for yet as I can cancel my preorder at any time.

What's the point of "letting me help them test their game", if they won't let me on? Seriously, not what I was hoping for here. They knew how many pre-orders they had, it's not rocket science to figure out people are going to want to try out what they have pre-ordered. And maybe that's why its free, because they can't provide an experience at the moment that's worth paying for...

Plus, they leave us wasting our time with no system in place for getting in when someone does log off. Why should I have to log in to figure out that the server is currenttly full? At least with EVE, they have a que, and with City of Heroes, there are server demand bars to see what's going on...

I understand there are going to be issues in beta, but this type of stuff should have been figured out a little bit earlier...

I think it's funny you guys are *****ing about "Paying for this" and "not letting me play", open beta (used to be called stress test) isn't paid gametime, it's not even the official game yet. If you don't want to play (or try to play) the game for free for the open beta, wait till the head start and ***** then. Beta's are for testing, feedback, and fixing, not to give you free play time for your personal entertainment.

That being said, it is annoying not to be able to play, just remember they're not doing it on purpose lol.

You idiots DO realize that part of the 'open' beta process is server stress testing, right?

Maps full, etc.. gives them valuable data on how the servers handle under load, etc. And I'm willing to bet that the servers available for the beta runs are not the full fleet, so to speak. Otherwise, stress testing would be useless.

It's also day 1. If you expected smooth sailing and zero issues, you're a bloody moron.

    Quoted from the FAQ:
We are aware some of you are experiencing frequent disconnects, and difficulties logging into the game. Please remember that Open Beta is still a Beta Test, and we are testing our servers under the strain you guys can put on it. We know this can be frustrating, but please hang in there. With your help, we'll be able to get all the kinks out of the system before launch day!

I appreceate that maybe the server is full,,, so what we have to do now is simply sit at our computers and keep loging on in the dire hope that by some miracle we can suddenly get in!!!!.
No, that is just plain stupid. Cryptic SHOULD have at least a que system countdown so we litterally DONT waste OUR TIME

This is not a beta guys.

I know it says Open Beta, but its not. They are pretty much REQUIRING you to go purchase a pre-order and for most that means buying the entire game. That means this is no longer a beta because we are paying to play it.

Now that being said, I know first day launches are ruff, but its been a long time since I saw one THIS bad.

If Cryptic is only going to have 1 server for the entire world then they really need to make sure that 1 server can handle everyone.

+1 for a que system, something to let us know the state of things, eves client connects flawlessly for me and when it does have server problems it tells me almost instantly after a disconnect, with a mesage like server restarting or server down, when its up and theres a lot of traffic it puts me into a que for logging in 68 out of 400 as example..

Really? All of those people that got their beta keys from 10 Ton Hammer, etc (FOR FREE) are really all just having a collective hallucination and aren't really downloading or playing?

Wow, that was a slick move on Cryptic's part if so. Better sleight of hand than even Criss Angel or David Copperfield.

You don't have to pay to get a Beta Key. With that said, I think that Cryptic simply was not prepared for the level of interest in an MMORPG of an IP, like Star Trek. Champions could not have prepared them for this. I feel that there could have been a better method of deploying the client, but this is a part of what beta is all about. Cryptic is at least getting a rough idea of what type of infrastructure they are going to need for launch.

    So they know now that

    a) Their login and accounting server won't handle the official start or the game. (As mor players will start as now.)
    b) Their map/zone server is overloaded for the first few day of official start phase .. (see now)

do i think that these problem will not appear on official release .. yeah sure ...

Well is designed to handle a high load. Digital downloads of games is there business. If they would take 30 hours, people would be upset, and that would cost them alot. Things like the torrents would be better if more people would upload, and fileplanet is only good if you pay (or are downloading a small file.)

Give them time. I have been in countless betas, and this is on par with the rest of them.
