    You can't. Steam must be running in order to play a title installed through Steam. Just forget it's there and play your games, you'll get used to it soon enough.

    Just find Star Trek Online.exe in your steamapps folder and run that.

    Sorry, Coderanger but that requires Steam to be installed, active and logged on. I just tested it.

    I can assure you it doesn't, the launcher doesn't know anything about Steam at all.

    With all MMO's through Steam you can just DL the client and log in using your information as with any other game, but if you are DLing the client from Steam then you have to use it through Steam.

    Only way to avoid it is to DL the client outside of Steam. I would suggest fileplanet.

    The Steam dev team is notorious for modifying the .exe of the games it sells without the consent or knowledge of the developer.

    We are not using any of Steam's executable-generation systems. I assembled the depot myself :-)

    The steam "shortcut" you have on your desktop is the one responsible of "needing" the steam client fully up. Instead you can go and browse your "steam/steamapp/common" directory (The "depot") for an integral STO "standard" distribution.

    There you will find the executable you need and when you activate it (or create a manual shortcut to it), voil
