Sorry to hear that... I sent a customer complaint in to Atari - I paid for the digital download but apparently it only gives u access to the free torrent link. I'm thinking fraud...

Would love an answer for this, as part of the cost in the Atari purchase is $5 for digital download, you'd think that would mean you have a link to download from Atari but so far I am stuck using the very very slow ST downloader. :(

From what I have seen in another thread there is no direct download from the Atari site. (At least not for the beta, even is ya have taken EDS I think.)

You can find different download methods and locations here : http://www.startrekonline.com/download

(keep in mind if you pick a torrent option, download speeds will be low unless you have the correct ports setup on your firewall and router for forwarding. Torrents take a while to get up to speed also.)

You'll get your digital download the day the game is released. They didn't promise a download of the beta client...

(I'm in the same boat and that is what I can figure from the product description)

I've had the torrent running for about 30 mins, its slowly speeeding up, the other direct downloads were very slow and I really wish I just went with Steam to get this game instead of Atari.

60% on the STO downloader which started about 6pm last night, here's hoping the torrent gets moving :)

I wonder if Atari should refund the $5 for digital download, I mean I don't care about the money its just the principle of it.

    Cheers for the help though.

edit. now see the digital download is only for live release not beta.

Players who pre-ordered the game from Atari.com should use the FilePlanet download or the "Star Trek Online Downloader" link to download the STO Open Beta client.

    Sincerely,
    Cryptic Studios Technical Support

so why do you charge extra money for a digital download?

makes me wonder if we're going to have to download the official release, then it makes the pre-order - open beta - headstart useless

Please do not say that.... I am not sure I could handle another days long event to be able to actually play the game live. I am hoping as more people finish we will get more seeds and speed things up.

SLOW??? I ve worked out it will take 69 hours at my transfer rate and its not even at maximum. That is the equivalent of 4,140 minutes. My Mum and Dad are annoyed at having to leave my computer on over night for almost three dyas solid. Is there anyway to boost the speed without impeding what its already downloaded?

There are a lot of posts about the fileplanet issue. I originally was going to purcahse it from Atari but then read the listing of things bought one of which was having access to download for 2yrs after release. I checked out D2D and they have what appears unlimited time frame. Thankfully I went with them I had it downloaded in a couple of hours I was getting over 600 kps for download. However ever fair warning for those still downloading the client there is a patch of 10Gigs waiting for you once you complete that. I've been downloading it since 1pm EST and its now 3:18pm EST and its only at 72.3% ...I wish I had thought to get up at 3am EST:). I've read on some of the other posts of people using the bit torrent and getting anywhere from 100kps to 300kps. I'm not sure why the patch couldn't have been given with the original beta download client but there it is.
