My machine is rebooting after only a few minutes after launching the game. I was creating a new char.
I am able to run games like Dragon Age, Aion for hours without problems so I don't think this is a hardware problem.
Here is the System, Display and Sound section of my DxDiag:

1. Check event logs and see if your system blue screened and rebooted to recover.
2. I didn't check your video driver version but it may need updating.
3. If you are shutting down that is almost always a heat issue, make sure you aren't overheatting.
Nothing in the log except a message after the reboot:"The previous system shutdown at 19:15:34 on 12.01.2010 was unexpected."
NVidia drivers are current, I downloaded then yesterday
I don't think this a heat issue as I can play Dragon age on max without problems for several hours
Same i got the same message in event log i run windows 7 if thats any help. i also play games maxed out for hours on end no issue and drivers are current
I've got a EV3A 750sli board with a Nvidia GTX260 (only 1 card so not running SLI)
I've been having the same problem, though it hasn't happened when i'm in Windowed mode.
With Max Window and Full screen the system would just click off after a couple of minutes.
Though its holding steady so far with the normal window mode.
Edit: Never mind, just did it in Window mode. It lasted longer though.
Guys, make sure you check your temperatures, for graphics card temperatures use GPU-Z and chose the option to log to file, it will then write to a file every second.
Now the original poster has a GTX 295 wich really is a cold card unless its a overclocked version. Also I noticed you use Core i7 CPU, have you made any modifications to your motherboards IOH cooling?
The IOH gets stupidly hot, Intel claims it's safe to 105C, just like NVidia claims their cards is safe to 105C. This is true when the temperature is 105C for a short period of time, for longer periods of time 95C is absolute maximum, anything above this will damage your hardware slowly.
Anyway, back to the IOH, what you can do is to remove the original heatsink device and put on a radiator from Thermalright, this reduce my own IOH temperature from 94C to 55C, wich really proves the heatsinks on these motherboards are all too small.
EDIT: I should add that Dragon Age doesnt produce any large amounts of heat, and Aion makes a GTX 295 card increase 4-5C in temperature from idling, wich is cause Aion is built to run on lower end systems so your card is a huge overkill in Aion.

There's somthing wrong with cryptic games, I tried out the CO 3 day trial thing, my fans were working overtime and quad core was almost 100% on my g15. Hoped it has somthing to do with using steam to run it. I ran conan on max settings no prob and it only used 1 core.

yeah CO was overing heating for me too. IDK why cryptic just ignores it. Their engine causes major overheating and they just act like its because their games are so great(they are kinda good) >_>
Is there anything i can do to stop the shut downs as my partner runs STO fine and has not crashed once and her computer is not as good as mine it makes no sence and its annoying hehe. suggestions and advice would be awsome
It might not be overheating might be blue screening for another reason
It is possible yes, but the Core i7 motherboards are known to have extremely weak heatsinks on the IOH.
But anyway, turn on BSOD so you can get some error codes, you can also use windebug to find many problems that might cause this error, but a WARNING, do not stress test drivers until its your only option left, and make sure you close and save all work you might be doing before stresstesting drivers as it will cause BSOD if any of the drivers have memory leaks.

Open the side of your case, get a small fan, open your window and blow 0 degree wind into your comp. just play like that thats what i do, i can play for a couple hours before my card overheats on me. to be fair my card has a overheating problem, but nothing like what Cryptic games cause. Crysis dont cause this much overheating for it.

Yea can run crysis fine aswell on max, yet CO crushed my system, I'm not at home untill tonight I only can assume that it will be even more intensive then CO. This really makes no sense, why do these games over-use resources, do they not put in a cap as to what to allow the game to use??
What's going to happen is im going to get flames coming out the backend of my PC, it's happened before...

The "better" a computer is the more likely it is to produce heat, and heat is your worst enemy and its alone the cause of 85% of the BSOD's on highend systems.
Check the temps first, use programs that can write log to file so you dont lose the information when the computer crash. If they look fine you can move on to reading the error code you get when it crash, and also check the "Probably Caused By" on the BSOD. It's not 100% certain it is caused by the file listed there, but it can give you a hint.
If you have Overclocked your CPU, you need to Disable Spread Spectrum in BIOS, otherwhise it will become very unstable.
Check your CPU's maximum temperatures here:
Now to figure out how to fix the overheating problem.
The only thing you really can do is to get another heatsink for your CPU. The bigger the heatsink is the better it will be at cooling your CPU. If you have overclocked it, clock it down again.
A temporary fix for your CPU overheating problem would be to clock it down abit until you get a better heatsink for it. If you are not allowed to install such things, hand it in to a company that is authorised to do so. Installing a large heatsink is not very easy, you need to remove everything from the chassi, and mount stuff on the back of your motherboard and then remount everything in the chassi again to finally install the big heatsink.
I uninstalled the nvidia drivers (195.62) and let windows installed old drivers (185.93) via windows update and I was able to play in windowed mode for a long time.
Concerning the hardware, this is an Alienware machine, the mobo is an Asus P6T Deluxe but I don't know what they put for heatsink but I didn't modify anything.
This is also no BSOD as the system stops and does not reboot immediately if there is one.
About the graphics drivers, the drivers from NVidia usually have memory leaks but gives great performance. The drivers you get from windows update is tested and confirmed to not have any memory leaks at all so they might be a better solution. And the 195.62 drivers gives me problem aswell, I use GTX 295 aswell, but I'm using the 190.62 drivers wich I know contains memory leaks, will probably do like you did and try the microsoft certified drivers.
I can play for 15 minutes and my laptop will then just shut down. This has never happened with any other game. I have windows 7 and I'm using a nvidia 8600gt card.

you can buy an attachable laptop cooler, they are about 10$, that might solve the problem.

1. Check event logs and see if your system blue screened and rebooted to recover.
2. I didn't check your video driver version but it may need updating.
3. If you are shutting down that is almost always a heat issue, make sure you aren't overheatting.
NVidia drivers are current, I downloaded then yesterday
I don't think this a heat issue as I can play Dragon age on max without problems for several hours
Now to figure out how to fix the overheating problem.

yeah CO was overing heating for me too. IDK why cryptic just ignores it. Their engine causes major overheating and they just act like its because their games are so great(they are kinda good) >_>
It is possible yes, but the Core i7 motherboards are known to have extremely weak heatsinks on the IOH.
Intel: http://processorfinder.intel.com/
AMD: http://www.amdcompare.com
Also for the debugging part check this blog: http://blogs.technet.com/askperf/archive/2008/05/06/troubleshooting-server-hangs-part-two.aspx
Concerning the hardware, this is an Alienware machine, the mobo is an Asus P6T Deluxe but I don't know what they put for heatsink but I didn't modify anything.
This is also no BSOD as the system stops and does not reboot immediately if there is one.
Intel have a nice list of recommended chassis depending on the power consumption on the CPU, you can find it here: http://www.intel.com/reseller/chassis2009/index.htm
About the graphics drivers, the drivers from NVidia usually have memory leaks but gives great performance. The drivers you get from windows update is tested and confirmed to not have any memory leaks at all so they might be a better solution. And the 195.62 drivers gives me problem aswell, I use GTX 295 aswell, but I'm using the 190.62 drivers wich I know contains memory leaks, will probably do like you did and try the microsoft certified drivers.
you can buy an attachable laptop cooler, they are about 10$, that might solve the problem.
