Definatly the surge of us all trying to get onto the servers giving it a stressfull time, and normally happens i guess in most MMOs when something new to see. As be a larger amount then cb now trying to create adn play this ST game.
So what's going to happen, we have to play roulette? I would have thought with the hype and push for the beta, there would have been enough severs up to handle this. if this is a preview of Feb, how are they gonna get people to want to play and stay?
Something else I thought of, this is NOT the first MMO Cryptic has put out so this sort of thing should have been forseen and resolved before open beta.
The good thing with this server is that its very easy to add another blade/instance, compared to the traditional servers where you need to open up a new server and make people migrate to it.
This never happend in CO, mind you there was a hell of a lot less of us playing then. Right now the servers are going through a stress test to see what needs to be done to prevent filling up too fast, its a normal part of beta's, they only have so much resources to make improvements with, so they need to test what needs upgrading.
I'm aware of the open beta, and I understand that the open beta LOL is pretty much just a stress test, but jeeze, I've never seen it this bad on an open beta, but then again, the only other game like it is EVE and it isn't STO.
So far I've been booted durring the character creation several times, finally created, then one of two things happen, I either make to the loading maps or I never do, LOL and get kicked back to the sign in screen.
I do hope they up the capacity quickly due to all the keys given, they should have taken the beta's stability for what it was and how it was getting towards the end and multiplied that several times over for the open beta.
I honestly hope they are quicker when it comes to launch however.
lol its 5 am here stayed up to give it a go as soon as i could, but i was thinking it would have problems at first thats cool tho... i reckon there would be lots of ppl trying to get on

That is so true it. Cryptic does know better at this point. MMO's are not a new phenomenon.
Everyone keeps saying "this is just part of MMO launch/developement" or something similar. The thing is, if we all know/expect huge login issues, and stability bugs, why dont the devs?
They knew there would be a 100 ton anvil of testers hitting the login servers. They also should have made sure the tutorial instance was set up to handle the tester load.
I expect bugs and issues during closed and open beta. This sort of issue however I think could have been avoided with forethought and planning.
Still, I like STO, so I'll wait till they get it beefed up. So long as its playable by launch date, all is good. Its just frustrating to see a company I used to be total fanboy over make mistake after mistake after mistake. I think they still got their hearts in the right place. I'll blame Atari
its dropping you all the time you play for a bit then it drops you from server ive gotten to space and just got droped again. now im stuck in charecter retrival. **** poor start to an open beta, been in a few been online gamming for 15 years. and for a company with more than one mmo under thier belt thier making rookie mistakes. well we will see
Well, I was able to play for about 20 minutes before getting the boot from lag, LOL. From what I got to try, pretty cool, liking the graphics, little jumpy, that's ok for a new mmo I don't expect optimizations right away. And PEOPLE, don't flame me for insufficient specs, my pc has enough for it... I should know playing Crysis and other games on full and being able to fully enjoy.
But from what I got to play so far, side from the ship combat, I'm liking so far. I'm going to play something else for about an hour and then I'll give it another go... that is if my Corp in EVE isn't under fire from that damnable corp that war dec'ed us.
thing is if the servers are full now they are gonna be buggered when game launches I am tempted to cancel my preorder now.. Waited 3 hourts to get in this BETA so far..
Comments
but this time he saved my charakter... thats a good thing
i can wait few mins.
Give it time peeps this has happened on ALL beta stress tests i have done which is around 14

What I saw looked nice though

Thank you!!!
worst start to a beta ever lol
WoW beta, Fallen Earth beta. They were far worse than this.
