Possible Workaround for the 10gb Patch Problem

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
If you ordered from D2D and downloaded the zip file, the updater may be trying to download a 10GB patch for no reason. I had this problem too, then realized that the hogg files were missing from when I first extracted them and installed the game.

After uncompressing the files the first time:

Step 1. Install the game once.

Step 2. Check if the pigg folder is empty after installation. I believe that the installer is cutting and pasting the files rather than copying.

Step 3. Unzip the pigg folder a second time, to the same location as the setup.exe.

Step 4. Run the installer again to the same location. It will see that there are hogg files already in your install folder and proceed to install them onto an application data folder.

Step 5. Run the patcher again and see if it is still trying to download the 10GB patch. After I did these steps, it allowed me to launch the game right away, so I could tweak my video and audio settings to my liking.

Ta Da! :D

You have to unzip it first, otherwise I think it will only install the launcher which will try to download all the files for the game from the patch servers.

I'm not sure what you mean by that. Did you unzip the one file that you downloaded from D2D?

I used the client that D2D uses, when it finished downloading i hit the Play button in the D2D download manager and did not unzip any file, and now there is no Ziipped file anywhere when i search for one.

Oh I see what you mean. The best way to get the zipped version is to use an unsupported browser such as Google Chrome to force a HTTP download where you can save it wherever you want.

Yeah, Don't use the client, cause it seems very nit-picky about where it saves things even though you can resume using it. Sometimes it doesn't save things properly either, due to the resume feature.

Can I get a sticky please? Seems like the "Move" feature to save file space on the installer is actually creating more problems than helping. Maybe if it did the "Move" for the application data install it would be fine.

Yeah, it does seem to be causing issues with D2D for some reason. It may be competing for file locks with the download manager. I am building a new Zip for D2D right now, but it probably won't go live until tomorrow some time.

Also, don't take me seriously, I'm hammered.

Also, why has no one yet discovered a gadget that prevents you from posting on social sites/texting when you drink too much? Imagine the cash that gadget would bring in. No IP as of yet folks, go make it happen.;)

Just copy the Cryptic Studios folder after install, to your games folder in public, I think this should be right: users/public/games/cryptic studios

Having the same issue, client wants to replace all files in piggs folder, tried manually pasting them in to no avail. Downloaded the game 3 times between steam and .zip version.

Will the client work if you proceed with the unnecessary 10GB download?

(ie. I've got the time and the patience, if I just let it run, will it work when its complete?)

Reinstalled entire thing via steam, STO client just wants to continue slow 10gb patch.

For some reason the STO client says 7gb not 10gb remaining, does it cache the 3gb downloaded somewhere or is it going to overwrite only 70% of the files from steam and cause issues?

What OS do you have? Some seem to have got it without issues, something must be causing it.

    Win 7 64bit here.

After reinstalling to steam when I saw the 10gb patch, it is not doing a 8.7 gb patch. I will let it finish and see if I can log in. If I can't, I will blow it away again, and hunt down any other files for STO.

So I downloaded the game from fileplanet and my friends and I installed the "SAME" download on three different machines. 1 friend had to download a 100mb patch. another friend had to download a 1GB patch. I'm forced to download a 10GB patch. WTF?? How does this make any sense.
    We're all running windows 7 64bit.

Until this afternoon, Steam was not correct setting the registry keys our client needs. If you restart Steam and then restart STO, it should find its data.

What about for those who did NOT download from Steam and have the same issue? I'm still downloading the patch for the past hour and a half. I downloaded from FilePlanet.

Try opening the location of the download from the fileplanet downloader. As far as I know, it should be a zip file. Just unzip everything and run the installer a second time. It should install the hogg files to a second location.

when you say unzip all the files, are u talking about the files inside the piggs folder?

i'm having the 10gig patch problem, i tried what u said, installed, re-unzipped the file back to the original folder, clicked install again, but now it says its only a 27 gig patch?

do i have to go through the piggs folder and unzip every individual file there?

    driving me nuts, help??

    thanks
