coderanger, i downloaded it when they first released it about 2 days ago, they released it saturday or so and i downloaded it and installed it.
i did not do that bad patching everyone else did on sunday. you know the one which messed up their clients.
so should i now try to patch if i get a msg to patch when i execute the exe? i want to be able to log in tomorrow, not have to download some 2.5 gig patch that others are reporting.
so d2d is what you would say is a download partner? and by default not all pre-order sites were 'download partners'?
if so then i guess im fine, but what happened yesterday? should i report back here if i do turn it on when i get home and it says to me to patch?
how big is the patch for the download partner sites going to be when we log in tomorrow. cause i assume u made changes since that client was released to d2d and your download partners.

The patch for what we are planning to deploy tonight should be ~10MB, so there may be something. Not many GBs though, unless the game didn't install correctly.

That is wonderful to hear. I use verison EVDO wireless broadband.. 5gb month limit. So, playing is fine. However, downloading is a issue. I went to a friends, in a SNOW STORM, to get this all downloaded today.
I used the torrent one, Star Trek ST.0.20100108a.0, So i am hoping i do not have to see a few gigs to download in the morning. In case of a bad install, i got the exe still handy.
So.. I am set.. right? I dont wanna have to go back out in the snowstorm darnit.

This may need to be posted in an announcement, somewhere. I've seen several posts and threads, where this seems to be an issue.
its a big issue and i am wondering what the hell people have or where they got it from? an official download partner or not... a closed beta upload or someother TRIBBLE, becasue everyone is saying on the main forum, oh im logging in and patching now, and im like wtf? i have to log in and patch 2.5 gigs tomorrow? 2.5gigs would seem to be alot of art content, voice etc, and theres no way they've changed 2.5 gigs worth of content in 3 days, what they do? throw out all the old models and make new ones? nah the 10mb is more realistic to me, and those other guys have to be morons...
I downloaded from D2D today 8 gigs or 7.5 something along those lines, installed open the client and now it is sayin i am patchin 10 gb's? is that normal

I have 3 gigs and this is the first time I am patching... while a friend of mine has nothing to patch. With all the do not patch stuff the other day, still up in the air as to what patch is what now. But I am sure every thing will work it self out tomorrow for sure.

Ah sod it, I am downloading from D2D just now that very 7.5Gb file. I really hope there is not another 10Gb to go as this is gonna TRIBBLE my bandwith this month.
There does seem to be an intermittent error with the install as performed by D2D. Please make sure the zip file is fully extracted (do not just extract and run setup.exe) and that you have closed the IGN download manager before installing.
The straight Zip should work, but Windows won't be able to open it so you will need another unzip program like 7zip or winrar.
The heck do you mean? On Vista and XP I've been able to open .zip files just fine without any special programs. And Windows 7 does it just fine too. .rar files on the other hand, I've needed other programs on XP and Vista, but dad says 7 can do .rars on it's own.
For the record, it's now fully downloaded, unzipped (file>extract all files in the explorer window ), installed, and patched. Ready to go for tomorrow

No, it can't, and no disrespect to your father, maybe he should read up on what "proprietary formats" mean.

Perhaps Win7 has fixed it, but under XP and Vista it can't open zip files over 4GB. If it is working I don't intend to question how though :-)

If that's the case when he was telling me about 7's unzipping capabilities then I guess he didn't mention .rar files and it was only my imagination. But it CAN do .zip files over 4 gigs.
PS: he's got a master's degree in some sort of computer engineering field (I keep forgetting precisely what.) I'm sure he knows exactly what a proprietary format is.
So the 10-14 Mb one is coming later? I get confused easily.
There may be an additional patch yet today, but all patches are cumulative. You need teh 172mb be4 you can get the next one and the one after that.
As long as you have started with the Open Beta client you can't mess anything up when it comes to patching.
The past issue was with ppls downloading an Closed beta client, patching it up-to-date with the 1-08 build and then actually needing to go backwards. Which Cryptic says they are going to fix up, but in reality its easier just to pull down the open-beta client and be done with it.

Ah I didn't realize there was a size restriction. But obviously 7 has it fixed cuz I did it just fine.
(Good thing I've got 7zip on my Vista PC at the dorm
