actually i was looking for a generic freighter to put on all my people and this one serves nicely YAY.
I just hope the loadouts do get fixed so i can restore all my people and start playing again.
The Merchantman Freighter has access to a secure subspace channel to call in a Security Transport ship. The Security Transport will allow you to access Prisoner Transfer and Contraband Assignments. The Security Transport is not a combat support vessel, and can only be called when in Sector Space. It is accessible to you and your allies.
Ever since the Sector Space Revamp, the Security Transports have been long-missed. Thank you for finding a way to bring them back.
(Still waiting on the Tour The Galaxy mission time-extension, though...)
A ship being T4 does not make it useless, it is thematic with this event when it had the T4 Kobayashi Maru which you could earn from the 2020 No Win Scenarios Event. Besides, it is more about it being a freighter carrying amenities and being able to do DOFF missions.
Where there is a Will, there is a Way.

I am actually looking forward to a generic freighter to give to all my toons,
The feds have one the klingons have one but the romulans and the jem hadar have nada.
So this one goes to them I am quite happy that this has been added.
Now Rattler must work on getting his promelian battlecruiser
You never know, stranger one shot ships have made it into the game from tng.

I wouldn't say 'nada' as they can claim the Freighter of their respective ally, but it definitely is nice to have this one added.

The only problem I see is, this is a T4 ship which would be a captain's rank, so you wouldn't be able to claim it util then.
According to the link it can be claimed after the tutorial.
That is certainly possible, there is the T4 Prototype Walker that is leveling just like a T6 for instance. It is a good ship for the lower levels though it is outclassed as far as endgame stuff is concerned since it stops at T4 (or at least it did the last time I used it, I suppose it could have been promoted to T6 since then or something (though I doubt it)).
T5 ships can't be claimed until you reach... Level 50 I think? Could be 40. They're certainly not claimable before that.
I think this should change. It's not like it would be game breaking if players could use their low tier Akira or Steamrunner and get the consoles from that at level 5, when they can already fly a T6 and claim tons of consoles (including more powerful ones from the same ship family) that way.

The T4 is still T4 because there's two T6 Walker's anyway.

Some of the T5's are level 40, some are level 50. It's likely the reason the minimum level for claiming them remains at 40 or 50 would be due to them having some of the most powerful consoles available from Z-Store ships.

There's also the issue that T5s come with all their weapon and console slots open and available upon commissioning, unlike T6 ships which scale up and unlock slots as the player Captain ranks up. T5s aren't designed to do this. So, if a player could commission a T5 Galaxy class right after the Tutorial, they'd have access to everything the ship is capable of immediately.

Neither were the T6's. They all had to be modified to work they they currently do.
They could do it for all the other Tiers of ships, but as I recall, the conversion of just the T6's took quite some time, so I really can't see them doing it for the T2-T5 ships at all.

Which powerful consoles though?
The Vesta line for example has more powerful versions at T6 than T5. And the Akira's torpedo console isn't exactly that powerful either (but a very nice one for a themed build nevertheless). The Maelstrom torp from the Legendary one is very powerful, yet that can be claimed even at level 5.
The only really powerful console from a lower tier ship I can think of is the Kumari's phaser cannon thingy. And that only works on that ship family, it has some serious drawbacks and without Spire consoles etc. it's not going to be very game-breaking either.
I'm personally not against restricting access to too powerful stuff at lower levels, but I fail to see how restricting access to lower tier ships (yet allowing powerful T6's with all their far more powerful gear) is going to help with that.
As for the 'levelling up' of the ship: I don't know how much work it would be to change this, so that T5 ships also have only 2 weapon slots available at first.
But again, is having 5 weapon slots available on a T5 Kumari (with no mastery package etc.) really a problem? If not making ships too powerful at low captain levels was the idea, I personally would've never allowed players to claim T6 ships at those low levels and not let them have things like the Maelstrom torps, Tricobalt tear launcher and some of the Vesta consoles.
Those are insanely powerful, can easily destroy entire groups with them in patrols even when you're only level 10 even though you'll have zero traits, skill points and few consoles to boost them.
Something I must be missing. From the news article https://www.playstartrekonline.com/en/news/article/11573535 it says, "Note: You can switch to your Freighter from any ship interior. Once you're done using it, switch back to any ship from the Freighter interior."
So... how do you do that? My ship interior only lets me select small craft.

When in Space press U then select your current ship then at the bottom it says switch starship, click that then scroll down and select the ship you wish to switch to.

Yes some of those are certainly nice little features to have restored, at least for those who earn the Ship.
Though in future it will likely be a Phoenix Prize Pack?
