So, they are wrecking more existing visual builds. Why replace instead of ADD the new stuff to the kitbash kits? Some people do go for the more unusual parts sometimes instead of the same old conventional stuff, usually in the pursuit of certain themes where a raw, quickly-bolted-together, funky-but-functional, pragmatic design (like the ones being replaced had), works better for the theme.
Other than that, the new Aurora skin is a very nicely clean and elegant design. It is great that it is a recognizable mix of mid-to-late 23rd century influences, especially if it was one of the few ships accessible from the TOS tutorial (which I don't think it is) for use with TOS era characters.
The Quasar is nicely done on a technical modeling level, but it suffers from being a PIC style design with all the useless art deco industrial garbage that entails. It would probably work for those who like PIC's version of Federation style though.
Whilst it's disappointing to lose the original skins, these new versions are top-notch.
(I just wish the Aurora got Constitution II nacelles instead of Oberth nacelles.)
