When I saw the player with the sword, and noticed the 'ripped' mirror Odyssey uniform top, I thought that's a cool new outfit! :D

Then I thought of clipping that often happens with tops, and then it was really disappointing. :(

    Is this all?

A ship, a ground weapon and what I assume will be three kit modules?

I'm sure the summer event items can be useful on some characters. It feels very niche though and that ins coming from someone who likes to build unconventional.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Looks like fun - and it's coming a bit sooner than I expected, too! I can't wait...

I actually did expect it to go off next Friday AFTER the Event going on now. Did not expect it to trigger 2 DAYS EARLY and overlap yet AGAIN!

I just hope that sword is actually useable and not a static-animated no-closer mess like the Terran sword and most other melee weapons in the game save for a few dual-wield ones like J'Ula's mek'leths and the Furradon Fangs. That almost complete lack of anything even close to modern melee combat standards is probably the biggest factor against ground combat in the game.

Regardless of whether the sword is useful for anything more than completing the set for the bonuses, the kit modules look interesting, especially if they also trigger the Risan kit frame like the regular Risan modules do. All in all, it looks like I will be doubling down on the Summer event this year to build up more lolnuts than usual.

Great Bird's Ghost! They're not even PRETENDING it's a Star Trek game anymore, It's D&D.

Don't get me wrong, I love sword and sorcery RPGs. I've been playing them since the Ultima games first came out for the C-64, and pen and paper ones before that. I just don't think those sorts of things belong HERE.

Hard pass for me. I'll be popping over to Risa to get the ship only for its Admiralty card, and that's it.

Next time, I hope the Devs remember this is supposed to be Star Trek, not World of Warcraft.

It is actually more like Babylon5's technomages in that it is just advanced technology made to look like magic (something that happened several times in TOS alone, as well as several more in the various spinoff series).

And D&D is probably not the best game to invoke to promote keeping sci-fi and fantasy separate considering they had a lot of sci-fi stuff masquerading as magic, up to and including an entire scenario module about a starship crashed on the D&D world (Barrier Peaks) that brought psionic races like Humans, Dwarves, and Illithids to the magic-based world that was mainly inhabited by Elves, Gnomes, Orcs, etc.

"The Elysian Spellsword is a fine and flawless re-creation of the blade Starfall, wielded by the knight Ridley in the story of The Kingdom of Elysian."

Corrections: Ridley is not a knight, but King Ridley, and the sword, Starfall, is wielded by the knight, Sir Adya.

PS - I love this episode (even though it seems to be regarded as the worst of S01 of SNW), and am so happy and surprised to see STO pay homage to it! However, I'm sad to see the Mercury Stone didn't make the cut though

To be fair Trek has had its moments where psudo magical abilities have been on display, be it the powers of omnipotent entities like Q or Trelane or "techno sorcery" like what was seen in ToS episodes like Catspaw.

...then there was the animated ToS episode where the Enterprise was sent to a universe where magic was real.

All I want to know is when does the event end, as the powers that be, have removed the calendar from the game so we have no clue as to when things in the pipeline starts and ends.

The uniform clipping issues is out of hand in STO. I don't even know why they gave us the medical coat that pretty much clips with every single uniform piece in the game.

Thanks, that part of the text didn't stand out to me so I didn't see it. They used to put it in bold and a different color.

One would think it would be closer to the title or header and not in the main body of text, right?

Not mention that Lower Decks episode where the ship is from had whole planet of humans who pretended their tech was magic to keep the Ren Fair feel of their culture.

So no this is not "real" magic, but rather tech renamed and disguised as magic.

The Calendar is remove, yes - but there's always the current event info in the Journal that shows start and end times.

The D&D nerd inside me is really excited for this, I just love the Idea of a bunch of LARPers having a whole planet to themselves, If I were to make a hysperian character, He'll probably be a Half-Vulcan Court Wizard of the hysperian court, seeing as Vulcans are Space Elves (High Elf variety aka snobby, civilized, very cultured, stick up butt), the character concept could work really well.
    • shadowfirefly00shadowfirefly00 Member Posts: 1,026 Arc User
All of this appears to be good fun, and one can already speculate about future content. A Hysperian vanity shield (replicating the 'scales') comes to mind, as do other ships in their fleet... the art team may already have some ideas on how their design language would apply to other hull types... for example, their version of the Defiant-class... On the other hand, as noted, there are some missed opportunities (outfits, non-combat pets, and so on).

Bonus: if I recall correctly, the Hysperian armor (at least, the male variant) can be approximated by the 'default' armor options in the tailor and or the 23c Starfleet armor (recent lobi store addition).

A more general unfortunate fact: the art team puts all this work into creating loading screen graphics... why aren't they archived somewhere on the site? Many if not all of them would be outstanding wallpaper material.

Is it unreasonable to hope there will be a aesthetically-coherent bridge for that ship, instead of the extremely ugly, 'default' one for non-aligned ships?

Maybe, in some future Event, then can bring back "A Piece of the Action" gear so the the game can Mirror "The 20s Mobsters" weapons, clothes and device. Or maybe even show how much influence Kirk, Spock and McCoy had on the Iotians so that on their world became a combination of TOS Fed and 1920s Mobs influence. Maybe a weapon that is both Tommy-Gun and Phaser or a communicator that looks like a cross between an old 1920s phone and a flip-communication or a Tricorder the size of a typewriter.

Still not sure why our Captains would be asked to go back to Iotia but it would certainly be cool if the Devs can come up with a good reason to meet them again.

And, at least in terms of outfits, many of the pieces are already here in one form or another (fedoras are a notable absence, however).

Those would be interesting... mechanically, I can see the weapon being the 'reverse' of the MACO/KHG set weapons: primary fire being the slugs, and the phaser pulewave being the alt-fire.

Agreed; if nothing else, examining how Iotia developed after the episode's events would be an interesting piece of fiction - and not wholly without precedent, as the 'Enterpriseans' demonstrate (relevant Bell of Lost Souls blog entry).

Not really fond of the ship idea honestly, stat wise it seems okay not much different from the Arbiter, the console might be useful on particular energy builds but that seems to be it. This does feel out of place with the particular event, at least it's not just the usual baseball uniforms I guess.

One of the (definitely non-canon) Trek novels had the amusing concept that just before Enterprise warped out someone had found McCoy's lost communicator and happened to download a comics library (or something like that, it has been quite a few decades since I read it) and the idea caught on so the Iotian society morphed into a sort of "golden age comics" mode using clever (if totally gonzo) applications of the subspace transtator technology reverse engineered from the communicator to enable the suits and gadgets.

STO could probably do something like that very easily considering STO is built on a modified Champions engine, and it could allow a limited "do something different" type crossover arc.

Baseball uniforms have run their course, a shame we didn't see a new outfit theme to replace them this year but it's expected that *eventually* we'd see Cryptic move on.

Really surprised the new ship's hull material wasn't made into a vanity shield.

Someone please tell me that there is a new Ren Faire outfit standing by, and NOT another baseball outfit please?

And also, please make the sword mount on the hip, and NOT on the back PLEASE!!!
