Lifetime subscription on consoles

Now I know this has been discussed at length on other threads, but I thought I would add my idea to this ongoing topic of contention.

As of 16th June 2023 the players on Xbox and Playstation don't get the 500 ZEN a month stipend for a variety of given reasons.
  • The price is higher on the PC this is why we get the stipend,
  • Microsoft and Sony won't allow the stipend,
  • The way the stores on consoles are set up is why you don't get the stipend.

Just to name a few. Ok I can accept all of those reasons, the DEVS can't gift the Lifetime subscribers on consoles any ZEN.

BUT what if instead of ZEN, the DEVS gifted the console players Dilithium? I'm talking about a 200 dil-1 ZEN ratio here or maybe even less. It would at the least sell more units of the Lifetime sub on consoles, therefore prolonging the life of the game. Seeing as Dilithium is an 'in-game' currency this is something that I believe the DEVS could accomplish, and as the Dilthium can be used as account wide (using the Dilithium exchange) I think a deposit every month into the Dilithium exchange could placate us irate console lifetime sub holders, as we could either save the Dilithium and exchange for ZEN or use the Dilithium in the reps.

Just my thoughts, most probably my idea will be shot down in the replies/comments but I had to put my idea out there at least.

Thanks for reading.

Here's one you missed. You can get LTS on Consoles for FREE! You cannot do this on PC; you must buy it from the website, and cannot buy it from the Zen Store. That's another reason why there's no stipend.

You tell me why on top of someone getting lifetime for FREE on Consoles, they should get a further stipend benefit that has zero chance of working because the Dil-Ex is player-controlled? This suggestion would have players on all platform up in arms for nipping Zen trading in the bud.

Stop claiming 'it's unfair'. LTS on Console is waaaaaay cheaper than PC, and again, you can get it for free....you cannot do that on PC.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

I fully understand what your saying here but grinding 8000 Dil a day to refine on maybe 3 or 4 characters will still take you the best part of 2-3 years.

I never once said it was 'unfair' I was hoping for a more equal state between PC and consoles. Maybe I was wrong.
I don't understand your hostility, I was just attempting to come up with a workable solution that would make everyone happy.

This is the attitude that drives people away from sharing their ideas on this forum. If you don't agree that's fine, that's your god given right but to try and demean other people and their ideas is just plain wrong.

This makes me glad that I no longer play on PC if this is the sort of attitude that PC players have.

I apologise I my suggestion offended you in any way, but that is all it was, a suggestion. No need to get so defensive.

I don't see any hostility in his response. With that said, he should not have quoted "it's unfair" when you never said that in the OP. As for the suggestion, that might cause those on PC to also want to have that dilithium stipend. I personally wish that those on console had the same zen stipend but the powers that be have decided otherwise and Cryptic sadly cannot change that unless Microsoft and Sony change their minds.

Just adding, getting LTS on console may not cost some money, but it's not free. Those that farm dilithium pay with their time and someone had to pay for the Zen.

Exactly I paid around £120 for mine when on sale. I do think it is wrong that PC players do not have the opportunity to grind for LTS. They should standardize the system across all platforms. and work out a different way of rewarding lifetime subscribers.

I mean the additional playable races are nice and the ships are somewhat good (they could do with an upgrade, maybe make the t6 legendary and replace the command seat with maybe a Pilot and an Intel seat after all they are 'destroyers'). I do love the FED uniform pieces, the Rom and KDF pieces are a little lacking in my opinion.

Maybe it's just a pipe dream but I would like to see the LTS somewhat overhauled a little to keep up with the modern game and meta.

The reason for my OP was after watching a video on Youtube where the creator basically said getting the LTS on consoles is a waste because of the lack of a stipend. It just got me thinking about a possible way of rewarding the console LTS holders. I was hoping for a spirited discussion, not exactly what I was hoping for. I was also hoping for other players to say not a good idea, but maybe *this* or *that*.

But you raise good points and I see why the PC players might get upset with my solution. Hopefully the DEVS will eventually work out a good compromise.

The point is that there is no grinding out LTS on PC. you HAVE to pay cash if you want LTS.

And that is where the system is wrong.

Cryptic gets real world cash monies from someone either way, so the main difference is that on console it can be a stacked double discount -- LTS on sale, plus the zen was bought on sale. With PC, Cryptic always gets the full list price or sale price with no double discount.

Firstly, I'll point out, I've been playing on PC for 12 years as well as Console for the last 5.

It took me just over 6 months (with 5 toons) on Console, with playing the Dil-Ex to get LTS, for free, on Console. I paid nigh on £190 for LTS on PC and I wasn't going to fork out another £120 for LTS on console. I see it from both ends, and I have a right to point out, after hearing 'it's unfair' from other Console players, that in fact, the only people it's unfair on are PC players, who do not have the opportunity to get LTS for free. If it's unequal for anyone, it's PC players.

Also, Console players are not disadvantaged in away by not having the stipend. If there was a unified server combining all three platforms, you would have a point, but as they are seperate, you have none. On top of that, The Dil-Ex is way more favourable on Console (XB), running at around 220-250 compared to PC's still 499-500.

I admit I guessed the time period it would take to farm the dil as I haven't attempted it, This is where having the servers or the systems separate is the wrong way of doing things. The DEVS should allow the players on PC to farm dil to pay for LTS like on consoles, and have a unified way of rewarding the LTS holders. If a ZEN stipend is not workable on consoles then they should explore other ways that would benefit players on PC and console.

"If a ZEN stipend is not workable on consoles then they should explore other ways that would benefit players on PC and console." Why!?

LTS, as you acknowledge, is cheaper by a third, on console, and being able to get it for free are the benefits for console players. There is nothing Cryptic needs to do, because you are not disadvantaged by having a cheaper, potentially free, product that is missing a sniff of Zen per month. There is zero chance of Cryptic giving away free Zen or other currency for a subscription you can already earn for free. If Cryptic had done this for PC, there probably would never have been a Console port. Other than the stipend, the packages are exactly the same....unified! That stipend costs $100 on PC at full price, roughly $75-80 in a sale. It takes around 2 years+ for the benefit to recoup the cost. So, in the short and middle term, Console has the better end of the deal in terms of value. If you're relying on PC for the stipend to buy you the latest ship, and you can't afford the Zen, it still takes SIX months to save for it. Say you want the latest lockbox, it's still going to take a year to get the 70+ keys that will give you a decent shot at one.

The servers are seperate for a reason, and it makes total sense. PC is literally the test platform for bugs. Console is benefitted by this, and has fewer bugs. If the servers are unified, if it goes down, all three platforms go down. Currently, if one server is down, the other two platforms remain up. If the servers are unified, Console players are going to be out of luck when it comes to the exchange as it is about double/triple the price for expensive items on PC.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, at all, unfair about the Console version of LTS. It is the exact same product, bar the stipend, that is available on the PC, but as we've said, for two thirds the price of what PC pays, or 100% off if you put the effort in. The ONLY way to stop this complaining would be for Cryptic to offer it for CASH ONLY on the platforms' store, at the EXACT same price as PC, which they cant because they are not allowed.

Just for pure indulgence, let's say you took this to court....

"Does it say anywhere this product includes a stipend?"
    "No"
"How much does it cost compared to PC?"
"About a third less in price or free if you work for it."
    "Then what's the problem?"
    "It doesn't include the stipend!"

    "Case dismissed."

You have no grounds to claim inequality for a lesser product at a significantly reduced price.

WOW no need to take this so personally, all I was trying to do was voice an opinion in the nicest way possible, that was attempting to please every player on every version of the game. I didn't mean to upset you so much.

I never claimed inequality or 'unfairness' and I understand the servers are separate for a reason (believe me I know, I lost over £4000 when I moved to console because health reasons stopped me playing with a mouse & keyboard).

As I explained in an earlier post my original post was in response to a youtuber saying that the console version of LTS was not worth it, even on sale, and to avoid. This was my way of trying to find a way to make the LTS more appealing across the board.

But as I said earlier (and indeed in different posts) the stipend is far from the only issue with the LTS.
The T6 ships for every faction could do with an overhaul to bring them more up to date (maybe make them Legendary with different specialization Boff seats).
If you own the LTS allow the opportunity to create Talaxians or reclaimed Borg using an alien/android or holographic Boff.
Maybe give us a unique bridge to use.

Anything to to make the bundle more appealing.
I really want STO to continue as long as possible, and seeing as all the new hero ships are put behind the gamble wall a lot of players don't want to spend £200+ trying to get the ship they want for only a single toon. That is unless you are a 'whale' that pumps $$$ into the game. Then good for you and I applaud your dedication to the game and community.

I mean the cost of the LTS on console is around the same for the 10th anniversary bundle and honestly you get WAY more in the anniversary bundle. In the fleet I belong to with maximum occupancy I know there are around 20 people that have LTS including myself, and they are the guys/girls that are normally high ranking. I'm afraid that LTS just isn't seen as desirable on consoles at the moment. This is what I would like to change. I want even the most casual of gamers to look at the LTS on every platform with a longing in their heart. I want it to be something that they want to work towards or to save for. But at the moment it just isn't.

So the more LTS they sell the better it will be for the GAME, so any suggestions to make the LTS more appealing should be welcomed and discussed in a rational and pleasant manner, rather than the tirade above.

If you have an issue with my ideas I am more than happy to discuss the points calmly and hopefully between everyone here a solid idea could be reached. But to just dismiss it the way you did is quite frankly rude and disappointing.

Now, this is a far more constructive argument than what you have put forward so far. The stipend argument frankly should be an F.C.T. Cryptic are no going to go that route unless Microsoft and Sony allow it, and even then, the Console option would only be a PS/XB store only option. In the short to medium term, Console LTS is better value than PC, and there are plenty of detractors out there that will say 'it's not worth it' unless the price was under £100, but the fact you can get LTS for free on Console is still a slap on those PC players who can only pay hard-cash for it. It might be a good idea to put the LTS-lite Console version on PC Zen store so those without the cash can at least get it. However, the current PC model requires a 2 year plus commitment to get value out of it, whilst Console is literally instantaneous.

Now, should Cryptic up the value of content in the LTS; hell yes! An LTS Legendary Ship for each faction would be fantastic. They should also give the Veteran skin a do over as is looks horrible these days.

Now, I'm sorry if I have seemed abrasive (you'll note the lack of expletives though), but sometimes someone has to be when the same complaint about the LTS is trodden over time and again and folk refuse to understand the differences between the packages and the acquisition of them. It's almost as bad as flat-earthers refusing to acknowledge the evidence right under their noses and above their heads

If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Now, this is a far more constructive argument than what you have put forward so far. The stipend argument frankly should be an F.C.T. Thank you for your kind words, and I get why it can get frustrating when the same old subject is bought up repeatedly.

I love the idea about a revamped Veteran skin, the old one does look kind of bad nowadays, especially with all the great vanity shields that are out there.

This is what I was hoping for a good explanation as why my suggestion wouldn't work and other ideas to make the LTS better value and more desirable.

Come on guys & girls what would like to see changed or added to the LTS? What would make you want to buy it?

In addition to my other suggestions....

The addition of the Borg kits and modules, and Borg themed Consoles, which would go great with Lib Borgs, and save having to rebuy them constantly for my new Lib Borgs. Pretty much anything that improves and fleshes out the Lib Borg offering to stave off 'we need a Borg faction' requests.

A Talaxian chef doff that enables replication of Taxalian cuisine that could be used as offensive weapon devices on enemies. Leeola-root stew anyone!?

    Personal and full customisable apartment!!!

Oh I didn't realise how much I needed this until you just mentioned it lol. Flashback of Commander Shepard's apartment in ME-1

And for all those naysayers complaining that personal apartments aren't really 'Star Trek', I would kindly refer you to Kirk's apartment in TWoK or Harry Kim's apartment in ST-VOY, hell we even saw a Section 31 officer have a full family home in Star Trek Beyond.

I would like the removal of the 1x android limit per character myself, and to add a Veteran ground weapon for each faction.

The Borg items would be a great addition and as you say could potentially remove the continued calls for a playable Borg faction, especially if they included a Borg vanity shield to give your ships that ominous green glow.

Personally I could see them doing a Borg Legendary bundle similar to the Terran Legendary dreadnought bundle but with a new Borg ship (possibly the assimilated ship from ENT), weapons, snazzy console and trait and ground weapons. Oh don't forget the Borg Boff and the tribble of Borg lol.

But as I have already said I personally believe if they reworked the T6 ships to meet the modern game standards and made them legendary maybe swap the command seats for something more appealing like an Intel/Pilot, or Command/MW. And this is my personal preference so please don't take offence, but a single hanger bay would be most welcome.

I know the DEVS have said no more bridges unless they are involved in a mission, but a veteran bridge that is FULLY explorable would be most welcome.

And please update the ROM, KDF and Jem' Hadar veteran uniforms. Compared to the FED veteran uniforms they are really lacking in quality pieces.

Oh and rework the Captain's table, while it is a great place to unload unwanted gear, it is always DEAD. Maybe give us something unique to veteran players. A new GPL vendor offering unique gear or vanity shields would be a good addition I think.

Just a few ideas, keep them coming guys.
