Wanted: experimental weapons that match canon weapons

davefenestratordavefenestrator Member Posts: 10,511 Arc User
I'm firmly in the "Space Barbie is the true endgame" camp, so having my T'Liss firing lightning bolts in between plasma beams or Kor firing disruptor cannons just doesn't fit.

It would be nice to have experimental weapons that look more like canon weapons, to match standard plasma, phaser, disruptor, tetryon, antiproton, beams and cannons. Perhaps they could be added to level 15 R&D crafting, or to the reputation system projects or stores.

I know a few of the existing ones can be close to that:

https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Alliance_Hypercannon is quite close if you don't mind your cannon bolts flying in a spiral.
https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Point_Defense_Matrix is supposed to be mini torpedoes, but with how small they are, they do look like white/blueish cannon bolts.
https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Subatomic_Field_Disruptor looks like a more aggressive-looking antiproton beam.
https://sto.fandom.com/wiki/Agonized_Subatomic_Disintegrator is the previous weapon's Mirror counterpart and looks like a more aggressive-looking phaser beam.

Thanks! Having to buy a ship to get them is a bit rich for my minnow blood though :(

I think the subatomic disintegrator is a green beam? I was plying with one of them on a cannon build and I pulled it because i did not like the beam amidst the cannon rounds

I too never saw the defiant shoot lightning bolts

I want a experimental borg 360 kinetic cutting beam, can only have 1, and a rapid reload missile too would be cool
And a second option for standard comes with ship

That would be a nice addition to the Omega rep (it could be an alternate to the existing KCB for the set), and would be a decent match for regular Antiproton beams and some other orange and red beams like Withering Disruptors.

Perhaps sadly for you then... Cryptic has only ever given away 4 experimentals counting the free hyper. The other 3 came from event ships that are now over. Its going to cost you some resources or cold hard cash to get anything right now if you don't have. Summer ship is coming... you can cross your fingers that its another escort.

It's probably one of the less abrasive and easier ones to get. Really do wish they'd go back and add Experimental weapons (and Sec Deflectors) to all the Reputations. It's kind of the least they could do if they're not going to add any more Reps to the game...

That's the one I usually use myself, has a nice torpedo feel to it. Since I'm probably getting Mudd's new bundle I'll have to check out the Point Defensive Matrix as well though.

Miradorn Theta Heavy Raider comes with a dual torp firing Experimental, IIRC the torps look like Photons so fairly canon. However, it's a Lockbox ship, so very expensive.

I too would really like easily available canon, or at least less-obviously stand-out, Experimental to be more available. I guess there's a small chance if/when they come out with a new Reputation. A mission reward one could be nice too. As for crafting, unfortunately, they've not done much with crafting in quite some time, so very unlikely.

Well, I mean, they *are* experimental weapons - it shouldn't be that surprising that they don't look like existing weapons.

True, but they could offer some versions with less gaudy visuals, and colors that fit better with existing weapons.

They could, but then people probably could not see them against all the visual spam nowadays. It is actually had sometimes to see what direction the little arrow is pointing with all the garbage flashing and whatnot in the current FTFO for instance though it is still the best bet to finding the other ship in time.
