I like escorts, and from time to time i buy one to test it out. Now i got my hands on Slithus, and i must say that its very weak, and under-performing compared to others KDF escorts, or any escorts of the same tier.
Slithus boff setting is not so bad, but its weapons placement, lack of any "magics", and moreover complete lack of any cloak is making it less wanted by players, and not much flexible in terms of build.
Lets compare it to Mat'Ha. This heavy escort has ideal gun setting 5/2, basic cloak, and good boff setting, that allows for quick enemy disposal, and good survivability, when something goes wrong. Also this raptor has very good, and powerful console (stronger that its Bortasqu counterpart, and fire in a cone, like CSV), that with a bit of luck, can vanquish most enemies and de-buff them at the same time.
Same goes for Ouroboros Temporal Raider, which has less hp, but battle cloak, temporal magic, and powerful raider flanking.
Compared to then Slithus has nothing of value, or attractive to pay for it.
Now we got access to ships from all faction, which pushes Slithus and Shikari to the bottom of a list with ships that we need, or we want.
Comparing both of them, to ships like Jem'Hadar escort with its deadly wingmens, kumari or lethan ship lines, or even recon escorts is making them completely useless now, and its no wonder that almost no one flying them nowadays.
Not to mention Legendary escorts that are making both Slithus, and Shikari a child toy, and waste of money.
You aren't wrong. But the same can be said of half the roster

Well... playing devil's advocate here for a sec...
The Caitian and Ferasan escorts, along with the Reman Hathos Warbird, were early T6, I believe the first to come with an Experimental weapon of their own. They may not "measure up" to more recent ships, but they might still fit the playstyle of some players. What one person feels is inferior, another may actually like. Its a matter of opinion and playstyle. Yes there are some escorts that can do what these three do but better, but... how many of them have the LOOKS? Maybe someone wants to be different and fly something you don't see often.
Just because it isn't best in slot doesn't make it useless.
Early T6? They came out in 2017 - that's hardly early.
As to the ship itself, while I wouldn't say no to any (positive) changes, what I'd really prefer are space versions of the Tetryon Duelist Compression Pistol - I.E. tetryon weapons with a kinetic (though I wouldn't say no to physical instead - it would synergize well with that console we just got) damage component - from PvPRep, since that was created jointly by the Caitians and Ferasans.
A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch." "We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"
Passion and Serenity are one.
I gain power by understanding both.
In the chaos of their battle, I bring order.
I am a shadow, darkness born from light.
The Force is united within me.
The experimental railgun they boast is actually nice (yet surpassed by the Temer's repulsor-weapon which seems like a sidegrade of the railgun), if you have some bonus to kinetic damage.

It came with one of the very first Experimental weapons. Hell... technically outside of that free Ion Projector, pretty sure the Railgun was THE first. After that was the Miradorn I think. I remember I didn't get an Experimental until I got my hands on the Bajoran Interceptor.

Partial truth, because they don't come so early as already mentioned Mat'Ha, which is far, far stronger (and still excellent ship, I was inquite a shock, wen it was part of giveaway promotion), or Faeht and Phantom, which has FIRST in game enhanced battle cloak, and Reciprocity trait respectively. Also both of them support very powerful intel magic (abilities), which in turn both Caitian and Ferasan lacks.
How many of them have the LOOKS? Maybe someone wants to be different and fly something you don't see often. Just because it isn't best in slot doesn't make it useless.
Its unique look its only hull shape, because its lack any possible customization options (except clans patterns), not to mention dedicated bridge or interior...
And if someone wanna it so badly as you stated here, then show me even one player, except me, that use Slithus today.
Don't take me wrong, I don't wanna delete them, or remove them. I only wanna some more attention granted to them, an a bit of refit, because now, when i use them, i fell like Im in my Tal Shiar adapted destroyer T5-U, not genuine T6, but T5, or at max T5-U.
Also if we talk about aged ships, then look at Dyson series (be destroyer or Obelisk), which is only T5-U, but still widely loved, and used. There is also a lot of post, to get more of them, or grant them T6 version, while Slithus and Shikari has none, except this one. This silence tells us a lot.

True, but what i hate the most, when i fly slow ships in TFO's is Temer repulsor, which often push enemies out of my range;). So its a bit of a troll weapon;).
Yeah, I find the Shikaris to be relatively weak compared to other escorts.
Especially the absence of pilot manoeuvres.
Not that I fly a lot of escorts anymore after they made dual heavy cannons' fire mode so slow. I'll switch to one once in a while, but nowadays I tend to pick the Legendary Defiant. Simply because it can do everything a regular, non-pilot escort can, but better.
Honestly I haven't used my Shikari anymore after the first time I got it when it came out, the boff setup is uninteresting to me now and the railgun and console doesn't feel worth using anymore.

True, they were first with this type of weapon, but limiting them in other aspects is to much of a price, as compensation for this.
