Recruitment event addition

Put simply, some of us are quite attached to our captains. Once our captain roster is filled, the options are to delete one of your captains to make room or buy more slots. However, where needing more slots because you want to try something new/different is a personal choice, needing an open captain slot to even take part in an event is somewhat less so, especially given your stated intentions to rerun recruitment events more often. As such, would it be possible to add a 'level reset' option (or a consumable purchased from a Temporal Agent perhaps?) that resets your character back to level 1, like Seasonal Rebirths in Diablo 3, and drops your character in their respective tutorial starting experience all over again, making them eligible to take part in a recruitment event.

I'm sure there'd need to be limitations, like only offering 1 of said consumables per recruitment, or maybe only captains who aren't already a recruit can be reset, but I'd hope it wouldn't be too significant an undertaking to allow pre-existing non-recruit captains to become a recruit of one sort or another.

I'm not against this, I just wonder if the effort is too much for it to make business sense for Cryptic.

What would you expect to keep on that captain, that is different from deleting and then re-creating them?

If nothing, why not do that instead, for free?

If (things), those (things) might be difficult to accommodate with the existing STO design. For example race, class and gender changes are all apparently non-trivial to deal with even though people here assumed it was just "flipping a switch,:

Diablo 3 does what it does by taking literally EVERY item on whatever character you choose to send through the season and putting them in some inaccessible digital limbo until the season is over - then they dump everything in mail and you can reclaim it all then, to be combined with whatever you gathered through the season on that character.

This would not work in STO for many, MANY reasons.
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

Would it be easier for the devs to simply make the tutorial missions replayable? Could they also add a token to the C-store to bestow X recruit status on the character that uses it? So you would buy the recruit token to become the recruit, and then replay the tutorial missions to get your device.

If they did it like this it wouldn't be much of an event and it'll be more of a Pay to Win situation, I seriously doubt they want to TRIBBLE their playerbase off, the LTS costs 25,000 zen and considering how bad the Dilithium to Zen conversion rate is that equals up to 3 to 4 IRL years to grind that much Zen, the current recruit model is already perfect as is, maybe if LTS could get special tokens that turn their level 65s into recruits during these events, however I agree with you on replayable tutorials.

I only suggest putting the recruit token in the C-store because it is clear that Cryptic is reluctant to do anything unless they think they can make money off it.

It wouldn't work with Cryptic's engine because the Recruitment characters are set-up differently than non-recruit, and that process is fixed once you select which faction you want to begin as. Resetting your character wouldn't set it up as a recruit as the character is still vanilla.
