since you can practically pilot all ships now... make any ship that is possible to be used by any faction to have their ship traits/levels be unlocked account wide. One point I really hate is to grind ships on each character. If a ship can be reclaimed by the zone/mudd store... then if I have it at max ship level... any character that claims that ship, it should be at max level. It'll encourage folks to buy ships and not worry about the ship grind.
They won't do it because of Lock Box and Promo ships. They aren't going to let people get one Juggernaut and unlock Weapon Emitter Overdrive for the whole account.

I wish they would, but they won't.
I think what the OP is suggesting is that if you have already reached Mastery 5 on a ship on one character, opening the same ship box on another character gives you the option to claim Mastery 5 for that ship. When obtain a ship, it would still always start out at tier 0 mastery, but if you already mastered it on another character, there would be a button in the ship mastery screen giving you the option to claim ship mastery.
This would mean that you would still need to obtain the ship before you could claim the trait and mastery.
While it would be nice, I doubt it will happen anytime soon if ever...benefits the devs if you waste time grinding them.
Not the devs, the people in charge of finance. The devs just build them, they do not set the insane, stupid pricing in this game. It is all about making sure the zen store operates flawlessly and that PWE make it's investors happy, not you.
There is no worse feeling in the world than the moment during an argument you realize you are wrong.
I used to be sympathetic to each character having to earn "account-bound" traits again, but honestly, I'm at the point where I'm over it. I'm tired of grinding the same traits again, and again, and again, and again, and...
well it wouldnt apply to lock box/gamble ships or lobi ships... you cant reclaim em on zen store. if you can you have an account unlock via mudd store.
I can dig it, grinding them out gets silly after a while.
yes please. i hate swapping stuff out just to grind the trait. let alone the grind on each toon for it.
if not free, then make it a dill buy like the legendary ones. (i think thats how those work)
The rank 6 legendary traits? Those are automatic, across the entire account. No reclaim necessary. You get them at level 1. You just can't slot them until 50.
You can slot 1 at any level if the ship you're flying was hit with an experimental token.

legendary ship traits are also tied to cstore ships. there's a huge difference in making a cstore ship trait an account wide unlock and a lockbox/lobi/promo ship's trait an account wide unlock.

I agree... grinding some ships is a nightmare, and for my build i need to grind at least 4 to get it.
Also similar system already exist, its called Jem'hadar account unlock when you hit T6 mastery on any of this ships, well its unlock ships not traits, but that can be adapted to traits too.
IIRC, before Romulan Republic characters were given the ability to fly the ships of their allied faction, you could achieve mastery of a C-store Fed/KDF ship on a Fed/KDF character and then claim that trait on your Republic characters through the Dil store. I remember doing this for to get the trait from the Dauntless on my Republic carrier captain.
The Ninth Rule on advanced can level a T6 ship from zero to fully upgraded in one run. That's provided you can kill enemies quickly in the last wave of course, but even if you don't kill that fast you can get at least 4 tiers. Then just run one more patrol and that should max it.
I was going to suggest account trait unlocks as an EC sink, but I don't think it would work just because of how quick and easy it is to level ships using patrols. No one is going to pay any significant amount of EC to unlock an account trait when they can just earn it in 5 min.
The worst part is actually outfitting the ship and setting up the tray.. that takes 5 times longer then actually getting the XP to level the ship. The XP part is the easy part.
