that julala or whatever her name was made it a point that is is possible in the game to suddenlly swich to a melee weapon during when you primary is a energy weapon. so that idea should be applied to the players and the boffs. I mean only when i like hit the button will it activate the melee attack. so lets say you have a standard energy weapon you have primary attack, secondary attack and then melee "classic" rifle butt attack. But if we have a sword or something added to melee weapon slot then we do like a quick sword slash. Also what is the point of having two sword slashes with melee weapons it is really the same animation so sword slash 1 should be like if you hit it once slash left and twice slash right and then move 2 should be a rush + thrust and move 3 should be a defense back have weapon butt block or whatever you call it. but i guess it is timesaving programming but if the ability is already in the game for another weapon should it not be added to other weapons.
anyway got off topic here yeah we need a melee weapon slot. i would switch to a melee weapon to do close range attack now but i it not natural there is a weird pause but the juuah showed that it can be done and done well. so were is the excuse not to make it part of our wheelhouse. you can only that mission so many times just to make us angry that realise that why can't we do it. it is in the game already and is shown a pretty good display of what the game can be. that is john wick in space people. melee and gunfu in a star trek game. dynamic combat that could build a need for those that wish to bring back a pvp arena for those high level players but for me i just want to be able to fill gap in ground battle while holding a melee weapon with smooth transitions and not have to shot then run to the target that is also backing away to hit them again with a melee hit. julua was a beast in the mission if you hit the right combo in that mission yes most people don't like her but they did the game back right kinda low on the armor and health but after the 10th or so replay i got that in the routine and no lost and the battle was evenly match and didn't have to do anything fancy. just simple straight forward attacks.
thank you devs for adding that feature to juluu but please make it an option to the players outside of that mission. i still don't like her as a character but i respect the skills/potential that was programed into her.
Good news, OP. You can equip a melee weapon to your secondary weapon slot. While in combat, press Z to quickly swap to your secondary weapon. Get a few hits in, then press Z again to swap back to your primary energy weapon. Problem solved.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
I am guessing what the OP wants is to be able to have a melee weapon equipped with both ranged weapons. Yeah, it's nice because you can keep a 2nd ranged just for set bonus and still carry a rifle and melee weapon.. but I don't see it happening.
I doubt this would ever happen, but it would actually make me willing to try melee out a bit more. As it is my two weapon slots are already taken with:
1) thematic primary weapon (Phase Pistol for my Enterprise toon, TWoK phaser for my TMP toon, etc)
2) Thompson SMG (for mowing down Borg)
