They are in 1 of 3 spots. So if it's in spot A, the next spot will be either B or C. Never A again right after. It can be in spot A only after it is cleared from B or C.
So stop opening the reactor again after it is cleared... go to the other 2 spots.
I keep opening the same ones because they sometimes don't spawn a core at all, so that means I waste my "helpful" teammates' targeting and BFAW and potentially avoid getting hit by a ? core's shockwave they shot on the spot because they're trigger happy and can't spend 10 seconds without wanting to shoot something even if it's harmful to them.
I just fly around cloaked until one of my teammates opens the pillars for a legit powercore. Then decloak, shoot all the torps, recloak and wait for the next one to be revealed.
So what if someone accidentally hits a ? core? The damage is trivial, and you are back up and zipping around after a few seconds.
The shockwave can be cleared isntantly with hazard emitters or science team. No big deal.

"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou
Shockwave effects can easily be mitigated through tactical team.
Hit EptE after that (useful for that mission anyway, so it's worth putting it on your ship if you don't have it yet) and you can keep flying as if nothing happened.
well some folks have auto fire on by default... too lazy here honestly... have multiple accounts to clear events on. also auto fire is good when you multi box... they just shoot everything as it follow behind.

I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Final core of that section also doesn't die very fast if 3-4 team members decide to fly over and nuzzle impatiently at the door.
Whoever had money on 2021 being the year cryptic finally sorted the deadzones in the trench to align with where they should be (second one starts after the node!) better luck next decade.
It always worked for me to clear the movement debuff. In fact, firing up HE proactively before the blast hits renders you immune.
Either I have some trait running or they changed how the effect works.

At this point, after going through this kind of things in various MMO, I became somewhat blasé and even amused, and when something like that happens, I usually go right back at the guilty party by keeping shooting the objective and then leaving when it has just a few % of HP left and I go on my business, whether it's killing endlessly spawning mobs, collecting loot (and refusing them all, just to mess with them even more), admiring the scenery, pretending to check if there is an hidden path nearby, etc.
If they're so impatient, then they should give up and finish off the objective before you do.
If they dare to "call you out", you can troll them further by saying you were giving them the killing shot so they don't feel too bad, aggroing the mobs so they wouldn't have to spread their weak DPS thin, collecting the loot they might need to improve their build, etc.
For further amusement, you can and should go for the next objective while they're busy typing their second reply to yours.
Of course, it's only if you're in the mood, have the time for this kind of "revenge" and the game have no "kick" system. You shouldn't do that if you just want to get done with this.
Actually Sci Team clears it completely. I do it all the time. Its pretty much the same as what the Voth Frigates do when they use their decoy.
I've tried that to no success. I know hazard clears the dot but not the movement debuff.
Maybe it does clear the movement debuff, but since when it happens you have usually gone to full impulse, only to get dropped back to combat speed, it makes you believe you're slowed down by it and not by the red alert effect.
EDIT: Just checked, Hazard Emitter DOESN'T clear the movement debuff. Science Team DOES.

This is annoying indeed. And it happens in every mission where some task needs to be completed before the mission progresses.
I remember being in an Best served cold instance where we captured all the freighters... and then nothing happened. Turned out one of those things was still waiting to be captured with another player nearby. Who was too lazy to move his ship and help us continue.
For some reason those idiots don't understand that they're only prolonging the mission for everyone, including themselves.
If I didn't want to complete the mission fast, I'd just ask the rest of the team to stay back or get to the exit and let the door stops deal with the final core on their own. If they're so eager to be the first to get there, just let them.

I used to think the same thing but I recently saw them in the same spot back to back. Or at least I think I did. I was really tired.

Then there's the players that just have to shoot the "?-Cores" as if their life depended upon it.
