talk to transporter officer

why do we bother to talk to anyone about where we want go if we, as toons, use our own devices to get where we want?

"where would you like to go?"

"shipyard."

"nevermind, ill do it myself."

its not like the officer at the console does it for us. (this is mainly for qosnos)

Maybe our ship is in middle of being repaired and you don't want to bother then with a site to site transport. After all our character doesn't have a personal transporter in lore, it's all done with our ship or the station/planet we're on. actually ESD does the same for the Academy only the a text for the pop-up is a bit different. Again our captain doesn't carry a device that enables transports (well not one that doesn't it directly, obviously a communicator indirectly enables transporting via contacting your ship).

And if you mean the beam out animation a) there's only 1 per faction and there's other reasons your character might use their communicator (that's what the KDF characters are using in the beam out animation) then just ordering a beam out.

naw. i dont mean beam out animation.

i just find it ironic that we even bother to have that dialogue box come up.

we do it ourselves anyway, so why even talk to the guy?

because we can directly beam to only our ship so it's quicker to talk to the guy then beam to our ship fly to the ship yard then beam in. As for a lore reasons, there's plenty of reasons why we wouldn't want to bother our crew with a site to site beaming instead of using a perfectly functional at First City and why we don't just use the console ourselves, it's probably both a security matter and a case of again lorewise it being easier to talk to the transporter operator then to program the transporter to wait for us to get to the pad (or so use site to site transporting).

My biggest gripe on this issue is that, on the Klingon Fleet Starbase, it's so hard to get the right position to get the popup to talk to the Transporter Officer.

Standing on the pad doesn't work. You have to approach the console and find that little tiny sweet spot.

This can also be an issue with public Bank and Exchange terminals. If your toon is really short, you sometimes have to jump up on the console to get the popup. The Bank terminals onboard ESD are an example of this problem.

This is because you need line-of-sight to the person you are talking to, and if you have applied the right upgrade to your starbase there is a big glass display in front of the transporter officer that blocks line-of-sight.

Would be nice if they could see through it... it is glass after all.
