So since you cant purchase an alien bridge officer for a Romulan character they cant be put in any of the Republic outfits since they're technically officers of your allied faction. But what are some of the best choices for outfits if you want to disguise that. It makes sense for Acamarians, Hirogen, Deferi and Suliban (which are hard to make in the alien gen's limited resources but if you squint its passable) to also be there but even Remans are much more uncommon to get your hands.
Depends on the role of that BOFF tbh, you could disguise science (and lesser extent engineering) boffs as civilians, after all your ship's doctor doesn't have to be ranking officer and you can have civilian specialists for non-combat roles.
Tactical officers can use the merc outfit if you have it or in case of Remans (which I'm pretty sure you can get as is and not just alien gen) you can use the Reman outfits. Also you can use racial uniform and you RP said officer as an exchange officer.
I use the racial outfit for the Kobali boff my main uses same for the Hierarchy boff (though I think that one is on the ship and never on away teams) and consider those to be exchange officers, this works as long as those officers belong to an allied race.
So you're probably not gonna see Romulans wearing RSE uniforms or Orions in Syndicate uniforms on a Starfleet ship. Now it's canon that there's Orion serving in Starfleet but they wear standard uniform (IIRC it's implied that Ensign Tendi isn't the only one).

I find that the merc outfit set tends to work fairly well.
