Out of curiosity, what's the reason why this has to be purchased externally and isn't available in the zen store in game?
So people can't acquire it for free, like they can on Console (which doesn't have the stipend).

Free? Define 'free' in this particular context?
You would only have a valid point if you had figures on the number of active LTS stipends, what percentage of that total zen pool ends up on the exchange, and what percentage of the total zen market is from LTS stipends. But once you have that data, it's not a question of it being 'free' but what kind of markup it takes to keep the LTS bought with zen on even footing with the same purchase through the store.
For the record, I never said *WHAT* price the LTS should cost in zen. Because I also don't have the numbers required to make a fair assessment of the LTS market. At least a 25% markup over the store price, taking into account the maximum zen bonuses (15% at $200) and other factors (like the ones I pointed out above). My extremely rough assessment puts the zen-market price of the LTS at around 45k zen.
Then again, it's not like the dilex needs *MORE* help capping out forever.
Now come on. You know exactly what I mean by free. If it was in the Zen store on PC, you could get it free by trading Dil to Zen , and please no rebutal by saying someone else paid for that Zen. Cryptic could not put the PC version on the C-Store in it's current format as they would be 'losing' money hand over fist giving the 500 Zen to everyone that acquired it for free, which is why the Console version is considerably cheaper as a result of not having the stipend. My point is 100% valid, even without access to figures, because it's undeniable common sense.
I also didn't say anything about what you thought LTS price should be. You asked a question about why it has to be purchased externally, and my answer was simple and succinct.

By the numbers if buying the LTS now for $150. it would take you 2 & 1/2 years to recoup your cost since you receive $5 worth of zen per month, BUT that's not accounting for all of the other benefits you receive from having the LTS.
That being stated, I certainly understand any hesitation in buying such a big-ticket cost with how STO is currently especially compared to purchasing the LTS a few years ago. That is for each individual to weigh the pros & cons best they can then decide.
A LTS isn't needed to enjoy STO but it certainly does offer some aide in playing STO.

Again, you can only call that 'free' if you actually have access to where the zen on the dilex is coming from. If ~99% of it is coming from zen sales, there's *NOTHING* 'free' about it. Cryptic is getting the full price of the LTS sale whether it's from the store or bought with zen. Someone spending $300 on zen, converting it to dil, and that same zen then gets converted to a LTS is -- let me do the math -- the same as someone spending $300 on the LTS itself. There is no 'free' anywhere in there.
*SIGH* Now why did I 100% know you would say that. For the player who ground that Dil and didn't purchase any Zen, it's 100% free for that person, no matter how you try to spin it. And no, time doesn't count either.

I had a friend who tried to buy this but:
1) couldn't find a buy now button in the article referenced.
2) couldn't find it in the z-store.
3) couldn't find it under account on arcgames.com
4) couldn't post in the sto forums when trying to ask "where do I buy this?" (he's been playing for 5 years but has never been able to post/reply/etc in the forums.)
He DID finally find it...5 minutes after it expired. So needless to say he won't be getting it this time around.
Suggestion: next time put the "buy now" button IN the ad.

There was a buy now link in the blog ..... PC Captains can click here to purchase a subscription.
It will not appear in the C-store or under account on arcgames.

Guys, knock it off with the doom posts. The game has been "dying" since it left Beta, and here we are 11 years later. Everquest is also still going after 20 years. If/when STO does die, they will tell you, but that's not today. Stick to the topic at hand.

Nope. Somebody paid another person for their time. Still. Not. Free. $300 is $300, regardless of who is spending it.
Yep, he pointed out that it is free to the player who ground that dil and did not purchase any zen. So it is 100% free for that person. Not for the one who provided that zen for purchase.
If Cryptic opened-up the LTS to being able to be acquired & paid for by converting dilithium to zen that would be insane & a bad idea imo for Cryptic but it is intriguing.
I have no doubt that some players could & would do it, but when there's a sale like this -50% at $150 I think it would just be better to pay real-money for it, then again, not everyone can do that so IF that were possible I'd understand the inquiry.
I mean very soon Cryptic will be selling a "legendary" bundle with less ships & less items/services than the LTS for a higher price when on sale so perhaps balanced logic should be tossed out.

I believe you can purchase LTS on console through the C-Store. So I suppose technically on console you can purchase it from converting Dil to Zen if you are up to the grind. It is a much reduced cost however on console as due to legalities you don't get a monthly stipend.

lol I have to apologize I keep forgetting about the console versions, I'm too centered on my pc. As with most/all things both pros & cons I'm sure.

LTS still can't be acquired for free. *SOMEBODY* still has to pay for it, whether that's through buying and trading zen or paying for it directly through Cryptic's store. That's not 'free.'
On PC there is no option to buy a Lifetime Subscription with Zen but on console there is. So console has the free option and PC does not. For the person who purchased that on console, it is free for them. Also, all things that are free come at a cost. My point still stands and so does leemwatson's.

Have you guy ever considered a 10% off (but minimum 10%? 15%? 20%?) for every 100 days subbed lifetime sale?
