Questions About the new ship choice freedom options going live on the 26th?

I read the article and understand what was posted but I am sure many people have additional questions concerning the major game changing option for STO? if you have a question drop it here and lets get some official feedback!

My question. Concerning ship reward boxes that come out of lockboxes and reward a specific ship which is pre-chosen based on the Faction of the character opening the box...perfect example, the Kelvin timeline lockbox offers such a reward pack with three ship options. One for Feds, one for Romulans, and one for Klingons, and you got the ship appropriate for your faction when you opened it based on what faction you were. Will boxes like these remain unchanged, or will they in the future offer the choice of which ship you would like to claim since those faction restrictions will no longer exist? I personally would like to see these boxes changed to offer the choice, instead of defaulting to a faction specific reward.

I came here with exactly the same question. The promotional text would seem to indicate that we get a choice, specifically this:
Obtaining the Cross-Faction Starship unlock will also un-restrict existing purchases from the Zen Store, allowing Klingons to claim Federation ships and bundles, and vice versa, if you already own them. The Zen Store and Starship Vendors have been updated to contain additional cross-faction reclaim options for any account with the feature unlocked.

    And this:
Since players will now have a way to access Starships they previously could not, we have chosen to remove many “Cross-Faction Packs” that were previously available in places like the Lobi Store, and some Lock Box or Promo Packs. The packs we’re referring to are those that contained only the Console, Starship Trait, and similar items, and were offered to members of the opposite faction when a certain premium Starship could not be flown by their chosen faction.

Existing versions of these packs will remain unchanged, but new ones will no longer be accessible. To unlock the features they previously contained, you may now obtain the Starship with which they are associated.

Lead me to believe they've revisited the lockboxes? But... I'm not sure? It's a bit vague. To me, 'all ships on all characters' means just that, but maybe not to Cryptic?

Do the developers ever answer threads on these forums? I want to know if my Fed-Rom can finally pilot, say, an Atlas.

Your top quote, only refers to cross faction boxes purchasable in the zen store, like the big mega bundles with like 9 ships in them (3 for each faction). so now when you claim those you should get all 9 ships, instead of just the 3 for your faction. That doesn't even come close to answering the question of multi-faction reward pack ship boxes which are obtained from lockboxes, and are an entirely different animal, both in where they are obtained, and how they are used.

For clarification here, the reward pack boxes (found in some lockboxes) offer a pre-chosen ship reward which is based off of your faction alignment (fed/Rom/Kling) there are typically 2 or 3 ships in these type of boxs (depending on the box) but you can only receive 1 of those options which is pre-chosen for you based on your faction alignment.

For example the reward pack from the Kelvin Timeline Lockbox offered a Fed Cruiser to fed pilots, or a Rom Carrier to Rom pilots, or a Kling escort to Kling pilots. But, it only gives you one of those 3 ships, not all 3 of them. You are not given a choice because you could not fly the other two options at the time anyway due to faction restrictions, so this made sense. With the removal of said restrictions, having these type of boxes just defaulting to your faction specific reward no longer makes sense. these boxes should now offer a choice from the options available.

The second quote is only referring to cross-faction console and space/ground trait boxes for players of opposing factions. So I would say that in both cases above, the question still remains. Hopefully we can get some clarification on this matter as I am sure it is a question A LOT of people will have.

I'm going to be pissed if they're still faction locked. The D9 and Atlas are some of the best designs they've ever done.

I can tell you right now, that prices on the exchange for KDF Trait. Console, Equipment, Skill Packs etc have spiked from 15 Million EC to 80 Million EC since this was announced. and once those are gone. they are gone. so what used to be a 15Mil EC investement on the KDF for say...the Dynamic Power Regulator Module, becomes a 1.5 Billion EC investment for a Starship. Without Cross-Fection Reward packs anyting from a Feddie you wanted that was cheap as a KDF is now gone as an option. and likewise if as a Fed you wanted to pick up cheap KDF traits like. Honoured Dead. Thats now an 800Mil EC starship PER Character you want it on. Ships already cost hundreds of millions of EC, this is only going to Spike prices up waaaaay higher than most of us can afford.

This is going to kill the Exchange for most players myself included.

Does this mean I can buy a KDF equipment pack and use the it on a FED character?
Because you know what i am getting at... some consoles on KDF cost like 10 Mio which costs 300 to 1000 Mio on FED because they are bound to a certain ship...

They are doing away with those equipment packs entirely. Now if you want that trait you have to buy that Billion EC Starsihp. For the most part I am generally passive with changes, it is what is. but..I really hate this.

No, it doesn't. They did not mention altering the contents of equipment packs... the post said those equipment packs will no longer drop from boxes.

I see that explains the price gouging on the exchange on the console I was referring to. Oh well... moving on...

My personal guess - but I will caution that this is only a guess - is that those will stay as-is.

Well that would certainly TRIBBLE all over the "all ships on all characters." In fact, it would mean about 3 of the 5 ships I care about the most still won't be accessible to my Romulan. Nothing personal, but I pray you're wrong.

Take this with a grain of salt, but this is from the STO Reddit:

Obviously it's hearsay. But I do know that the devs do occasionally communicate with people, so maybe that's really straight from the horse's mouth.
