I'd power off your computer, then after after 15s try reloading it, mostly so cache, video card memory, and everything is cleared.
Then when you get to STO:
╙ Try Options in Loader screen, and do a Force Verify.
╙ This will ensure all files are fully patched, and up-to-date. This can often FIX problems!
╙ Another option is to see if new Video Card driver available, from Hardware support website.
Also depending on when you load it might be a case of your system getting overloaded due having to load so much stuff, I don't know what platform you're using but on my PC only times I've had crashes on loading have been during high traffic times.
For PC, best bet before the nuclear reinstall option is to start the game in Safe Mode. For Console, do a hard restart on your system before you try a reinstall.
Needless to say, I've not encountered any crashes.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
The most important setting for avoiding a crash on switching maps is to disable on demand patching like in the screen shot. If you're going to try anything first, do that.

Some toons are taking longer than usual, others are just fine.

On Demand Patching is evil, don't use it.
