wondering if anyone is using them for normal difficulity episodes and tfo. using the old alliance battlecruiser with the standard weapons but barely make a dent in enemies. its an improved over tactical escort retrofit but only by a very slight margin
I run the battlecruiser on one toon with the Temporal cannons/turrets to keep the AP flavor. It does very well with just the MkXII on normal. I did the Event Mission with it today, actually, on a Engi toon.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.
I have come to the conclusion that I have a memory like Etch-A-Sketch. I shake my head and forget everything.
Some of the event ships are really good - we had a run of really excellent ones throughout most of last year and the first half of this year (Risian ship this year was pretty.. average).
Most ships don't come properly equipped for combat, so expecting them to be 'good' without doing anything to them is a bit misguided. At the very least, you should fill up your tactical console slots with AP Mags, then work on getting some weapons up to mk15. Also, for the sake of covering obvious bases, make sure you're running the Attack power configuration so you're doing full weapon damage.
If you want better/more specific advice, it might be best to describe what you find lacking with your current ship/build.

In short, the ship is only a tiny portion of your effectiveness. Your equipment is what matters most, next to your skills, traits, specialisations, Bridge Officers, Active Doffs and then your ship.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
Under level 50 you can actually get away with the default junk that ships come with thanks to the wonky scaling lowbies get gifted with when they do group content. 50+ and there's no real excuse for having the trashy whites still equipped as rep reward boxes will fill those slots easily with whatever damage type.
That’s right. I would even go so far as to claim that after 10 years nobody knows STO in and out.
When it comes to building your ship(s) I would not do it on your own but take some help.
We gladly do.
Big surprise, I agree with my buddy here.
The Alliance Battlecruiser is a fine ship and can absolutely handle Normal and Advanced content with ease. It's just a matter of getting a good build that works for you. The STO League Site is a great place to find build help and suggestions to get you on your way. I would refer you to the following articles to help you out:
Many event ships are actually quite good and like others pointed out its more how you equip your ship and how you build your character. The "Space Galleon" for example from winter event is one of my favourite ships with 2 hangars
