to steal from the turret B'rel idea.. the flight deck akira, so you have the pets.. but I was thinking just for fun, the ols school point defense console, and the akira photon torpedo point defense.. and I think there is even another point defense console out there from the phoenix boxes.. sure only once every 2 minutes but Lord it would be fun to see
Never it but you can reduce that 2 min cooldown.
Going to try the Vorgon Ytijara-class on tribble with heavy weapons before I invest on live.
Why two? Between mission sets and rep sets there are five different sets that include a heavy turret. Chronometric Calculations and Morphogenic armaments (both polaron) from missions. Counter Command Ordinance (phaser/disrupter), Obfuscated Strategies (tetryon) and Task Force Ordinances (polaron) from the Rep sets.
I wonder will there be any real difference between a turret build or heavy turret build? I guess if there are 5 heavy turrets I could go 5 rear heavy turrets and heavy weapons in the front just for the theme.

it's only every two minutes if you don't use stuff that can reduce universal console CD - which DOES exist now, though i think the only instance of it is the https://sto.gamepedia.com/Trait:_Unconventional_Systems trait

It’s been many years since I used turrets. Can you use 6 heavy turrets of different damage types or is it a limit of 2 heavy turrets? I kind of like the idea of making a heavy turret rainbow build for fun and stacking haste as the base fire rate is slower then normal turrets. Not 100% sure how many heavy turrets there are, will have to look into it tomorrow.
There is not an equip limit like there is with omni beams, if that's what you are asking.
Most "special" turrets are parts of sets though and you can only use one copy of each such turret. No limit on craftable ones though.
That's a shame so we can only fit 2 heavy turrets at a time? I was even thinking about a heavy weapon build even though its sub optimal but its not looking possible to fit enough heavy weapons to make it really viable.
To be clear: as I said in my original post, there is not an overall limit to how many turrets, or heavy turrets, you can equip on a ship. You may be thinking of the omni-beam rule, which only applies to omni-beams; there is not a similar rule for turrets.
Some turrets - including, I believe, all heavy turrets - are however part of a set, and are considered "unique" weapons, which means that you cannot equip multiple copies of the identical weapon. Not the type but the specific weapon. For example, if you have a Counter-Command Heavy Bio-Molecular Turret, you cannot equip a second Counter-Command Heavy Bio-Molecular Turret, but can equip any other turrets.
I was thinking heavy turrets only so am I limited by the amount of unique heavy turrets I can fit. Due to me not using energy weapons in many years I wasn't aware of all the new heavy turrets that got added. I was only aware of 2 sets that used heavy turrets hence why I thought the limit was 2 heavy turrets. It looks like the limit is 5 heavy turrets at the moment.

do they have alternate energy types @ T6?
True, the reputation ones do have alternate energy types at tier six, I forgot about that. The mission sets are the same as before, but an expanded listing of the Reputation sets at T6 (with the T6 alternate energy(s) separated by double slashes) is:
Counter Command Ordinance (phaser/disrupter//plasma/tetryon), Obfuscated Strategies (tetryon//antiproton) and Task Force Ordinances (polaron//phaser) from the Rep sets.
As for the difference between turrets and heavy turrets, heavy turrets fire slower but hit harder per shot similar to the other cannons, but I have not seen a breakdown of them so I don't know how they actually stack up against each other DPS wise (the tooltip might shed some light on it, but I never really compared them).
it sounds fun but I think something like the kentari rocket launcher would be a good addition. I also think that any crafted turrest should have the [Rapid] mod, since that has ma chance for a free crf for all turrets
