The non-torpedo torpedo (bug/not-bug)?

Not that I'm surprised (the overall state of torpedo weapons in this game is abysmal), but the Morphogenic Torpedo Launcher from the [Home] mission has no weapon-type classification. It's not classified as a beam or cannon weapon, obviously. But it's also not classified as a torpedo weapon either -- except for the purposes of high yield and torpedo spread and then it is a torpedo. It only has a damage-type.

Is this weapon intended to be ignored by all forms of torpedo-related buffs, effects, and equipment? Or was this just an unanticipated side effect of dealing a non-standard damage type (ie, not kinetic...which coincidentally has no tactical consoles either)? Can it get the torpedo weapon type associated with it so that it can count as a torpedo for more than just torpedo BOFF skills?

This is not a bug. According to STO Wiki: "Unlike most torpedo launchers, the Polaron Energy Torpedo Launcher's damage is enhanced by abilities and items that improve Polaron Damage, and not those that improve traditional Torpedo weapons." Working as intended. Thanks. :)

So it has no weapon type. It's not a torpedo. It's not a cannon. It's not a beam array. So it can get no benefit of any kind from Discovery-rep tactical consoles, since there aren't any *damage* types, just *weapon* types. That's easily 50% damage lost right there. I mean, the torpedo sucks enough *already* (even ignoring it's not-torpedo nature, it's only *slightly* better than standard photon torps against shields and significantly worse against hull), but it doesn't get any benefit from weapon-type bonuses of any kind, of which there are many. What about EWT or PWT skills? Does it get any benefit from either of them? They're weapon-type specific bonuses. That's another 50% damage boost.

Also, the wiki isn't the 'authority' on what is or isn't working as intended. Because, yes, I read that, too. One would correctly assume that it doesn't get bonuses from the various torpedo damage-type consoles (being that it's not a photon, quantum, transphasic, etc). But it is still a torpedo and should receive damage bonuses as one.
honestly if you're not going for super low budget the energy type specific consoles are better then the DSC rep ones and on purpose as it was stated that those rep consoles aren't meant to be high end but rather a easier/cheaper option for people still working on their builds.

The Spire and Colony fleet consoles have energy based consoles and R&D system as also make energy based damage boost consoles. So maybe there's no energy type based consoles in the disco rep but it's just one source for damage boost and not even an optimal one.

EDIT:The base damage boost from the Bellum/Pax consoles is +20% for beams and torps and +25% for cannons.

The base damage boost (at mark XII VR straight from the store) for spire consoles is +27.9% for weapon types and 31.9% for energy type specific boosts.

The Colony consoles(also at Mark XII VR) give similar boosts to the spire ones though there's no weapon type specific consoles.

Even the consoles you get from drops energy type specific gives you +26.2% boost at mark X very rare (which is not that hard to get) at 1 mark higher a beam specific consoles give only 18.8%, even a mark XII cannon specific can't beat the energy type specific nor can the torp consoles.

TL:DR get energy type boosting consoles rather then weapon type boosting ones the little extra you get from the Pax/Bellum consoles isn't enough to overcome that difference.

EDIT2: little under 10% hull cap or little over 1% CritH isn't really gonna change much except at lower levels (or possibly at absolute peak but those people generally have better ways of getting that then the disco consoles).

EDIT3:note that the boost you get from those DSC consoles isn't linear and having 4 of those doesn't give you +40% Hull Cap but less then that.
