Items lost after deleting not active ships

As asked in a support ticket i want to address an issue i encountered:
I recently moved ships out of the dry dock and deleted them. I did not ready any of the ships before i deleted them, but after i launched into space i had to detect, that most of my active ships items were gone. "Move equiped items to newly readied ship" was active in the options.
