Lukari Colony Looks Blurry and Low Resolution

redwatchmanredwatchman Member Posts: 144 Arc User
The structures and environment on the Dranuur colony all look low resolution. Even my character looks fuzzy. The UI looks normal and characters in chat dialogs look normal, but the rest of the Colony environment is hard on my eyes and difficult to spend a lot of time in. Is there a way to fix it?

It's only exterior areas of the colony and it affects both the Fleet colony and the Melting Pot mission. In Melting Pot the interior lab zone is normal.

Check your in-game graphics settings. I had a problem similar to this months ago, and it was because all my settings get slapped down to Ultra Low.

Your settings changed for one specific map? My settings are set as high as they will go. They don't appear to be different on this map, but it's very hard on the eyes. This map should be beautiful—I can see that clearly this would be a really nice looking map if something weren't wrong with it. It looked slightly better in the TFO version of the map when it was the endeavor last week, but the fleet colony version and the Melting Pot version just look terrible. There's a blurry, pixilated, magenta layer over everything that seems intentional, but does not seem to render correctly.

It seems like a problem with 1 effect being layered over things. Based on videos and pictures I've seen that magenta hue is on purpose and is not supposed to look horrible like it does for me. When I adjust the renderscale setting upward it remains distinctly lower resolution than everything else. I'm running a force verify on the game files to see if it gets corrected.

That did not correct the problem

I went as far as uninstalling the game, deleting the remaining files, and then reinstalling it. The issue remains. The magenta shading on the colony is still all pixilated in low res relative to all other textures.

To me, hazy effects tend to be caused by the Cinematic Focus (aka Depth of Blurriness) effect. I have had that set to off for a long time, as it doesn't look good to me when it's on at all.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried turning that off but it makes the problem worse. The big low rez purple pixels just get sharper.

This problem was fixed [for me] in the 2/20/2020 patch

Turns out it was ambient occlusion, which is odd. Glad that it's fixed, though.
