Better Graphics Directx 11 support for 64 bit

I feel like these need to be implemented considering the game has a vast player base and its 2019

While it would be nice to have better graphics support for 64-bit Windows, at the same time if this game gets more graphics intensive they will lose me as a player.

Whilst they aren't 'photo-realistic', graphics are still good enough, and re-playability keeps people here. As above, if you make the game too graphics intensive, then the game population will suffer. Saying that, Cryptic do make updates to the engine regularly.

I like the graphics in the game.

Sure, the character models are a bit dated.. but it's a 10 year old game. The ships look great though, I am normally a 'graphics snob' in games.. but I actually have few complaints in STO.

For a 10 year old MMO.. I think it looks pretty good.

Unless they lose a bunch of players cause of 'old' graphics; I'd not think Cryptic has ray tracing or stuff like that high on their To-do list. I'm gonna assume PWE is fine with STO as is as long as it keeps making them money.

Most MMO tend to have "older" graphics anyway so that you don't need a super computer to run it on the client side.

A complete reworking of the graphics engine is a "STO 2.0" question which is answered in the F.C.T. sticky thread.

Cryptic has improved the graphics over time, just not moving them into 2019 AAA title territory. And like @spiritborn says, most MMOs try to run on low-end hardware so they can be played by more people who are not "gamers"

Yes, I agreed...much has been improved over the nine years. Much...

I agree with everyone else. The graphics looks fine. Especially as I'm one of those low-end computer users.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

Ok the needs of the many outway the needs of the few I guess. Can anyone help me how to maximize my graphics and screen resolution then? I use a GTX 1070 with 1920 x 1080 screen resolution and why I try to adjust resolution the UI gets super small but other graphics look better or sometimes the screen gets stretched or widened etc

One of the settings under options is the scaling for the UI. So you set the screen to 1920 x 1080 then set the UI scaling to 1.1 - 1.25 (whatever size makes it easy to read).

You can alter the size of the UI individually in the Options, and apart from using /renderscale_2 or however it's put in the chat box, you can only use the setting with-in Options to maximise graphics. AFAIK Cryptic are in the process of updating the backend now 32Bit support has ended, but that will just open up for more RAM than 32Bit allowed, which should improve performance, even on low-end 64Bit machines, especially Laptops; and for me, performance matters more than top-end graphics that don't add much to the game as it is.

It's logical really MMOs are expensive to run and game developers don't do it as a charity, so it would be not good business to produce an expensive game both to make and run for a sub-set of a sub-set of the potential playerbase (and thus potential customers).

Also due the sheer number of players and objects needed to keep track or render at once MMO are more hardware intensive then most other games. With an MMO even your game client has to keep track to a degree as to what other players do and most MMO instances have more players in them then an online FPS match.

The graphics quality is fine as it is, though the gui itself could use some work (like the ability to split the ability bars instead of them being a monolithic block).

If they were to actually do a major graphics engine rework (unlikely as that is from a practicality standpoint) it would be better to switch it to Vulkan and wean off dependency on DirectX which would open the game to Linux users (and there are a lot of gamers who prefer Linux but have to maintain a Microsoft OS machine to game on). It could bring in a big influx of new players, more so than graphics that only a small percentage of players have the hardware to even see.

I would have no problem with splitting the ability bars as an option but I prefer my monolithic block. So please do not take that away. Thank you very much. :)

Not necessarily. It's a F2P game and many people run it with suboptimal hardware. Raising the graphical requirements too high might cause them to lose a lot of players.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Graphics are fine and are already demanding-enough not to be able to run the game well on older systems.
If anything, the performance should be improved, not the actual effects.

And the lights still need fixing.
