Jupiter needs some TLC

While we all know that the original winner was - I was hoping that the Jupiter Carrier get a modern day facelift. I hope that new costumes would be added to the carrier, especially perhaps some former entries.

This design in particular with perhaps more variation of the saucer section. What say you all :)

To each their own i guess. For me personally i feel the design is too sleek for a carrier.
The design would fit better for a battle cruiser or science vessel, but not a carrier.

Biggest problem/cause for its low appeal with the Jupiter seems to be its stats and layout, not how it looks.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I wouldn't mind seeing an upgrade.

Maybe they could make a new C-Store Jupiter Variant (say, Neptune Class). Give it a Command instead of an Intel seat, a new console, and the ability to mix and match parts with the Jupiter. Introduce it alongside a new Tier 6 Vo'Quv or Kar'Fi perhaps.
They don't usually do Refits of Tier 6 ships (except the Fleet variants), but maybe it's time to change something up. We don't want to wait for T7 before we can get a new variant, do we?

Hopefully they never fall into the T7 trap. Power creep that bad would create the same sort of problems that deferred maintenance is causing the New York subway system right now, causing a backlog of work that probably would never get done for lack of time and resources. A lot of people keep requesting that their favorite T5 ships get the T6 treatment already, imagine the mess if all the T6 ships got dumped into the same situation with the already large backlog of T5s.

When the Jupiter voting happened, I knew that one of the most bland designs would win. It's not bad looking, just nothing super. It could use a alternate skin for sure.

I like the design as it is, but full Carriers (Jupiter and Vo'Quv) need something more added to it's abilities, hopefully at least a Sec Def. Currently they are way, way under par after they updated all the other Flight Deck cruisers and escorts etc.

If that where the final design, i would have buy it in a heartbeat, but no, we got the ugly one... so no, no thanks..

I never saw the other design, but the current one does look rather lackluster. I think they made a mistake in putting the launch bays in the saucer, but they probably wanted to keep away from it looking like the SFB Fed carrier or something. The design needs a detailed skin at the very least to knock some of the ho-hum off of it looks wise.

It wasn't the design I voted for (I voted for the saucer/Delta - it looked the most "starfleet" to me).
    STO-Design-Your-Ship-Banner.png

Personally speaking, I thought back then, and even today, that it was a slap in the face considering there's still no T6 Vo'quv(the first playable carrier in the game). Really though, the JHV Carrier is the undisputed king of carrier-play these days; face-lifting "the whale" isn't going to change that.

I believe I voted for the 2nd from the Left on the TOP & BOTTOM; as I was hoping the Carrier be a bit smaller and more maneuverable.

Given in this case most of the design or a lot of it is done, they could add it to Phoenix or Lobi tokens...

People who keep suggesting T7 ships I suspect are very rich, and never really bother thinking anything through either. the harm it would do to the game could be irreperable.

T6 ships already cost 30 bucks a pop. buying 2 of them is equivalent to purchasing a new triple A title. imagine how much they'd charge for T7. not even considering the ridiculously overpowered stats and special things it would need to have to be "worth it"

Why would they consider doing T7 at all? There's still design space within T6 with unexplored Specialization combinations to play with. There's still no Science Pilot ship, for instance. I can't seem to think of any Science Command ships right off hand either (I was away for a good while so if one dropped during that time, I likely didn't notice). Not to mention the possibilities of combining ships with a Commander seat in one spec and a Lt seat in another. If they ever release another full Spec, these options will only broaden further.

With that, and given the age of the game already, I doubt we'll ever see T7.

Tier 6 ships basically happened when they had covered a lot of ground with Tier 5 ships and there weren'T really many mechanical niches left. The possible combination of bridge officer seatings and console slots had been covered very exhaustively, so there wasn't much mechanical reason to get a new ship, only a new look could sell, and that might not have been enough anymore. Especially since they had covered a ton of canonical ships already and the remaining canon ships were pretty exotic.

Tier 7 ships will probably happen when the sales for Tier 6 ships are notably going down. They will have to bring something new to the table to excite people, a mechanic similar to specializations and starship mastery traits to differentiate themselves both from each other, and the Tier 6 ships. That isn't necessarily easy.

It could mean that Tier 7 ships won't come because they can always devise a new specializations and mastery trait that will excite people, and thanks to the new TV series, new exciting ships are introduced, plus newly excited fans are looking for a game to explore the franchise. It could also mean that once Tier 7 ships have to come because they just can't come up with something that attracts players anymore, but that the game is so far "gone" that even Tier 7 ships can't help them and the game would be moving towards life support. Or it will work out for another few years before they need to worry about a new tier.

In one of the livestreams(no I don't remember which) someone asked about that and the devs basically said that they've pondered T7, but if they make them they'll be as different from T6 and T6 is from T5. But in a different way.

Spock Jellyfish is the 1st Science ship with a command pilot
The only other Sci ship with Pilot anything is the Na'kul

Sona Command Science Vessel is Cmdr Command/science
There are a couple sci ships with lower degrees of command availible (The T6 tholian for example).

I really have a bad feeling that sooner or later they will introduce T7 ships. They are coming people, it is a matter of when. They may have actual trait slots or the ability to switch Bridge officer seating in some way, but whatever it may be, I have a deep feeling that T7 ships are coming. At least in some limited form.

In truth though, I am hoping for a new Star Trek Online 2

A fresh game built from the ground up with proper developed factions with their own tutorials and episode trees, with them linking up at the finale against the ultimate evil, "The Borg."

Then there is a reason to really introduce T7 ships - just plainly change the entire Tier thing, which is an awful system.

I on the other hand do not want STO 2.0. They do not have enough devs to have more developed factions with own tutorials and episode trees. No to Tier 7 ships. I personally have no problem with the tiered system.

I had the impression that the way the choices were presented (aka match ups) we got what was already destined.

There were a number of people who felt nostalgic towards the original Cryptic Special Jupiter. I forget which one I wanted, but the current Jupiter wasn't it.

I honestly hoped that we'd at least be able to access the second and third place ships for the Ship Customization screen.

I'd like to see an updated/tweaked Jupiter along with a T6 Vo'quv package (maybe do a discount package like the kind that was made for the Discovery Pack), so that those who purchased the Jupiter can get the package cheaper to make up for the earlier purchase.

Like the Jupiter, the ship crew could work on alternate designs for us to chose for the T6 Vo'quv carrier's main appearance.

Alternates for both Jupiter and T6 Vo'quv should then be voted on for alternate skins for the ship customization screen.
