New event system vs. 2019 summer event

velrennvelrenn Member Posts: 26 Arc User
I had to leave STO before the end of the summer event for personal reasons. I left the project slotted with 760 vouchers thinking I'd be able to finish it on the next event.

Then kicks in this new event system, and only now I could return to the game. I still have the project slotted with the vouchers, but I don't have the slightest idea if it'll do me any good, since there's the new event tab now and the next summer event will surely go in there - with automatic progression and no vouchers (I assume).

Am I just SOL? Is this event unfinishable? Can anyone give me any light?
IDIC is the spice of life.

Cryptic has said they plan to auto complete any old projects one still has unfinished.

When this will happen is unknown.

I don't think they are changing the way they do Summer/Winter events. They can still be completed the normal way as far as I remember.

I think they are going to switch over to the new system. For one thing it frees players up to use any character rather than the one you started with, and another it may also be a back end improvement because of one less item to keep track of.
Also they include a more straightforward buyout option.

But until the Winter Event hits, its just speculation.

If they do change over I hope they keep it to the race itself instead of loading on extra requirements since the grind would ruin the "vacation" fun of the overall event.

They don't need to turn the seasonal events into more grinding. If they change anything about the ship earning requirements, it should be that any ONE event completed in a day during the event should count towards progress.

On Tribble, the next Event is one we are already familar with - the Kobayashi Maru one. And it uses the new Event UI.

    1) You can use old TFO tokens to add progress to this event.
    2) You can gain 1 progress per day by running Kobayashi Maru on any one character on your account.
    3) You need 14 days, just like the old event.
    4) Once you finished it, the remaining days you can earn an increasing di lithium payout.

It seems like that the conversion process from the old to the new system for events is straightforward. it requires the same amount of days, the same level of activity.

Unfortunately, what this means for the Winter/Summer/Aniversary projects that you have already slotted is still unclear.
It is possible they keep the old Lobi-Finishing method for the Winter/Summer/Anniversary projects open, which isn't great, but might be better than nothing.

I can certainly agree with this sentiment.

And any Character on the Account could contribute to the Daily progress for that day.

Yeah but of course they will, like they did with the qulash, to increase the odds of people buying out.

That is likely to blow up in their faces though, since a lot of people simply will not buy out and just get frustrated and leave the game for a while. After the turkey-trot grind of the Elachi event I had to step away from the game for a while even after successfully getting the ship (I will be back for the winter stuff, maybe drop in a bit here and there before that).

And the weird sounding but true part is that I probably spent less time in the game during the event than I did during previous events because the perception of grind was higher. Most of the time between getting the ship and the end of the event (I did stick it out though the whole thing, dill rewards part and all) was spent with the Romulan character idea I had that actually required an Elachi ship to work along with some housekeeping of reputation projects and the upgrade stuff.

They did nothing of the sort. It was repeatedly stated that they want people to actually play the event and NOT buyout.

I mean sure, that's what they said. They're actually cognizant of PR and marketing.

But at the same time, they augmented the amount of activities they have to do for the same reward (40 TFOs, 80 patrols). I mean the summer event is just some flying around, 25 times. For oemga events, it's 15 times if you get the featured boost before.

This is a cash grab. It's ok, they have every right to create cash grabs. But the idea that it's anything else, I don't believe.

Mycelial Crisis was a completely new event. You cannot fairly compare it to any other event as it was a test of the new system. Again, it was specifically stated that they did not want people buying out. The buying portion was always meant to be for players who could not, for whatever reasons, finish the event in the time alloted.
