Are we finally, FINALLY going to get an M'Ress hairstyle for Caitians?

captainhunter1captainhunter1 Member Posts: 1,640 Arc User
From the latest Tribble patch notes.
Caitians and Ferasans have finally learned how to properly open their mouths.
Hair physics have been added to all Caitian and Ferasan hairstyles and fur facial features, including whiskers.
Caitian and Ferasan ears are now animated.
Hair physics have been added to appropriate male and female hairstyles and mouth accessories for all NPCs and players.
NPC and Player Sphere Builder ships now have animated parts.

So with all this terrific new work to Caitains, are finally going to get the classic M'Ress hair style for them as well?

Yeah, the announcement is for hair physics. Not the same as adding new hairstyles.

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.

About as likely as getting a T6 Nova and T6 Ha'nom in the next zen store ship bundle release.

Well, I heard that it wasn't put in before because of a combo of weird Caitian head physics and the fact that it would clip badly.

But we have plenty of other 'long hair' options available for characters that don't have clipping issues, and now with the extra work to Caitian heads, it shouldn't be a problem 'physics-wise'. Besides Caitian hair is only available for Caitains, so it isn't like they have to get it to work with all character models. :p

TAS is canon, right? With Lower Decks also being animated and recently confirmed as being in-canon too, I honestly wouldn't be shocked if they brought in some stuff from both series.

Depends on what they bring in. Cryptic won't be able to touch the Kzinti stuff though, as that's owned by Larry Niven.

they won't be bringing in much of any remaining TAS content, by their own recent words - most of it is too 'far out there', even for STO
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

Also don't expect any connection to the episode where Kirk met Satan.

That's what Kirk really should have been mentioning to Sybok and the god-impostor in STV.

Yes TAS is canon however as icherous mentioned some things, like the Kzinti, are still off limits for one reason or another. Also don't expect any connection to the episode where Kirk met Satan.
You're probably thinking of "The Magicks of Megas-Tu". That was an extradimensional being who sometimes impersonated the devil.

Anyways, you'd have to look at each ep individually to figure out which ones they could use. The ep with the Phylosians has already gotten mentioned in STO. Several eps are problematic because from the PoV of TOS they were fine, but the picture they painted of the galaxy was at odds with later works. The Mad Planet ep mentioned several races that were depicted as powerful civilizations, but never mentioned again in any Star Trek episode. Some of the races were used in novels, but not episodes.
