PS4, Xbox One character selection screen

There should be a two-step verification to deleting a character on console. PS4, Xbox one. Currently it can be done on accident or even a child can do it. Please add 2-step Verification on deleting characters.

That's a good idea, a character might have hundreds of hours invested in it along with large amounts of zen spent on per-character unlocks.

If you accidentally deleted an important character you can try putting in a support ticket to see if they can recover it. The answer may be no but it won't hurt to ask.

I haven't deleted a character yet, but don't you have to type in the characters name before it will delete it?

That's the problem, I think, console doesn't have that safeguard.
Now a LTS and loving it.
Just because you spend money on this game, it does not entitle you to be a jerk if things don't go your way.

I can confirm that there is already two step verification already on the Xbox. You cannot accidentally delete any character. You MUST type the character name exactly and click OK before it will delete the character and this will be the same on PS4.

Interesting, so the OP made this issue up?

Or was just mistaken. I double checked my Xbox account as I was sure this was already in place, as I know this is how it works on the PC (Yes, I play both Xbox and PC). It would not make sense for the method of deletion to differ from what was already in place on the PC.

Currently on PC or console both you have to type in the name of the character as it appears in order to confirm the deletion. if it's not currently doing that, this would mean that either a setting has been changed that none of us are aware of, or a bug has presented itself. If you have evidence that a character can be deleted in this manor then by all means pm it to me and I will forward it up the chain for fixing and/or clarification.

Heck I can't even accidentally delete most special items without typing it in, must be the same for a character.

I'll see if I can delete one of my onused characters tonight and see if it asks for confirmation.

I did not make a mistake. I'm aware you have to type the character's name in. In my opinion this is not a two step security. Suppose you invest a lot of time, effort and money to get your character where it is now and you are at your character selection screen you walk away from the console or PC just for a moment and a child unintentionally clicks delete. Now the character name is greyed out for you to fill it in and the child fills it in your character will be deleted accidentally. This is all hypothetical of course but it's still rather easy.

    That's pretty far-fetched.

So this hasn't really happened, you just have mischievous or malevolent offspring that can pick out character names using an on-screen keyboard in just a moment? Or is this even more hypothetical and you're worried about other people not yourself?

If you do have kids and can't trust them not to keyboard away your characters, use the parental controls to lock them out of STO and don't wander off while playing it yourself.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

    Seriously, stop it..

You have to take some responsibility for keeping your own characters safe from deletion. If you live in a house with children who will delete your characters then log out after you walk away. Making the entire player base go through a third layer of protection just to avoid this completely absurd scenario is just ridiculous.

You're just embarrassing yourself now, the security in place is more then adequate.
    Insert witty signature line here.

This is an absurd and extremely unlikely hypothetical situation. If you are that concerned, just log out or load a toon in or log out of your gamer-account. It is not the responsibility of anyone but yourself to ensure the security of your account at the user-end, especially as Cryptic's security is pretty decent. It is not the responsibility of Cryptic to keep your child, sibling, relation or otherwise off your game, it's yours. Sorry to be harsh, but you are being unreasonable. After playing this game for 9 years on PC and 18 months as well on Xbox, I do have a considerable amount to lose if another person in my house-hold should gain access, but I have my accounts passworded, so I don't have that concern. It's much easier to wait for 10 seconds to load in the game, than it is for the Dev's to program in yet another security step just for you. Having you type in the name and, IN BOLD LETTERS, ask you to confirm deletion is more than enough security, and it would only be a malicious act from a third party that your 'hypothetical' scenario would happen.

I agree with the others. This is just absurd. You're asking Cryptic to add more security because of the off chance that some kid might delete your character if you walk away from your game? That is so easy to avoid that it isn't worth the time, effort or money it would take to code that in.

As the others have said, if you're going to walk away from your game for long enough for some random kid to delete your character, then it would be better to log off the game, go do what you were going to do and then log back in.

That seems like less trouble than Cryptic trying to babysit your kids for you.

I came here hoping for ground barbie screenshots.

All I saw was someone who should get their kids some Barbies to occupy them.

Well, OP, your opinion of what constitutes a two step process is not what matters here. It is a two step process: 1) Select Delete 2) Type the character name. You admit that these steps exist. /Thread
